These are 9 relaxing & feel-good songs to get you through your day. I tried not to use popular artists, just in case you're trying to find new musicians to listen to:
1. Mother, We Just Can’t Get Enough by New Radicals
This song by the late 90s artist New Radicals starts off the with line “Make my nipples hard, lets go!”. If that doesn’t get you hooked on the song right away, I don’t know what will! Afterwards there’s a catchy funky guitar riff that I, “just can’t get enough” of (badum tss). Some have their own opinions about what this song is about, but I personally feel as if this song is about drugs and/or sex, but take this song how you want! This is a wonderfully composed song. Mother, We Can’t Just Get Enough can be found on their one and only album, “Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too”. This song just happens to be my personal favorite from the album but please feel free to listen to the full album!
2. That One Song by Gnash ft. Goody Grace
This “One Song” (oh god somebody stop me) is the perfect road trip song to be honest, but one can listen to this feel good song pretty much anywhere! This tune starts off with an easy going acoustic guitar melody, followed by gnash’s witty, but cute/ totally boyfriend material lyrics. The chorus includes another upcoming artist, Goody Grace, with his silky smooth voice saying, “I don’t care what everyone’s doing, it’s just me & you”. If you don’t find this song to be absolutely adorable, you still will. There’s no hiding from this one. Tell your boyfriend to take notes with this song. Haha! One can find this "one song" Gnash’s EP, titled, “Me”.
3. Love Away by Capital Cities
Capital Cities is most popular for their song Safe and Sound, I knew that couldn’t be their best song, so I listened to their album, and I found an even better song, and Love Away was one of them. Unfortunately, I don’t have a witty pun for this song. However, Love Away by Capital Cities has got to be one of the catchiest songs on this list, and it spreads a positive message about, you guessed it, love! This is on their album, “In a Tidal Wave of Mystery”.
4. Ship and the Globe by Kae Sun
I first heard this soothing tune on the Korean Drama, “It’s Okay, That’s Love”. Don’t worry, the song is in english! I believe this song begins with a relaxing bass riff followed by rhythmic snapping. Imagine listening to this song as you’re staring out into the ocean, on a boat, or even on a road trip, with a peaceful look in your eyes as the summer/spring breeze runs through your skin giving you goosebumps. Ship and The Globe is on his LP, Afriyie
5. Better Days by Cam Meekins
I had absolutely no idea who Cam Meekins was until I was listening to rapper G-Eazy on youtube, and Cam Meekins appeared on the side bar. I have no idea what led me to click on his name, but I did, and Better Days was the first song I heard. After that, there was no going back. This is the most played song on my iTunes at 398 plays and counting. Better Days starts off with a piano melody, with his first line being “I just want you to know, that I’m stuck in your soul”, and that was all I needed to hear. In this song, one can almost visualize his lyrics, and get an outlook on some of his experiences. Not only that but his lyrics are relatable, especially when he says, “I pray for better days, I know what has to happen I'm away, I know in my life I've made mistakes But I'm holdin' on for better days.” I think we’re all holding on for the “Better Days” in our lives. Better Days is on his album, Lamp City (which is probably one of the few albums I can listen to fully through. Please check him out!).
6. Wild Heart by The Vamps
The Vamps are a pop/rock band from the UK consisting of the 4 members, Bradley Will Simpson (lead vocals and guitar), Connor Ball (bass guitar), James McVey (lead guitar), and Tristan Evans (drums). Wild Heart begins with a folky guitar melody. This is another tune that one can listen to while on a road trip. Driving while looking at a coastline of the beach maybe? Even though this may be your typical love song about being in love with a girl and giving them your heart, etc, it’s still a very song with a fun accapella chant toward the end singing “Tonight we’ll dance! I’ll be yours and you’ll be mi-i-i-i-i-i-ine, we won’t look back, take my hand and we will shi-i-i-i-i-i-ine”. This sounds so much better in the actual song I swear! One can find Wild Heart on their self titled album, The Vamps.
7. We All Want The Same Thing by Rixton
Rixton is another band from the UK, also consisting of 4 members, Jake Roche, Charely Bagnall, Danny Wilkin, and Lewi Morgan. They’re most popular for their hit, Me & My Broken Heart. Some my even compare this band to Maroon 5, which wouldn’t be an insult for obvious reasons, but these boys do have their own sound! We All Want The Same Thing has a funky dance melody followed by the angelic vocals of Jake Roche. This is another love song about spotting a girl, and practically falling in love with them at first sight. The lyrics are flirty, and pretty straight forward. My favorite part has got to be the bridge, but I’ll you listen to that below ;) This is on Rixtons debut album, Let the Road.
8. Life Is Good by Cam Meekins ft. Stizzy & Jeff Replay
I most certainly did not make a mistake by placing the same artist on here twice. I could honestly just include the whole entire Lamp City album here and why each song has its own originality and sound, but I won’t. I’ll let you figure that out yourself. Cam Meekins has yet another laid back song called Life Is Good, and the title practically speaks for itself. Life is unquestionably good for Cam Meekins, Stizzy & Jeff Replay in this mellow/easygoing hip-hop tune. This song can also be found on his album, Lamp City.
9. 사랑쪽지 Love Letter by Seventeen
I was not going to write this list of feel good songs without including a K-pop group. Seventeen is a South Korean boy band consisting of 13 members (yes, 13 members). One does not need an english translation to feel how delightful this song is. Everything from the song to the melody just feels so positive and joyous. Love Letter is simply a witty love song about expressing their feelings toward someone they love, however, they’re not exactly sure how, so they do so through a love letter.
(The English Translation can be found here.)
