When it comes to skin tones, there are various colors and shades. Tan skin always seems to be what everyone strives for, but some of us just can't do it. Pale people, you know what I mean. Living a life of Casper the Friendly Ghost usually comes with its share of comments that you hear all to often.
1. Why are you so pale?
Obviously because I don't like to lay outside and burn my skin to a painful crisp. There are so many other things that I would rather do.
2. You should try tanning beds or a spray tan.
Why can't my pale skin be enough as it is? Why must it be darker to fit some standard of beauty that people with naturally tan skin set for all others?
3. That makeup is too dark on your fair skin.
It's called porcelain, and it's the lightest shade possible. Pale girls, you know it's hard finding a shade that actually blends and you also struggle with wearing dark eye shadows and liner. You want to give your face color but not look like the Joker.
4. Are you OK? You look sick.
That's just my natural face. Without makeup, I look like I need a doctor and a few blood tests done. I can't go anywhere without makeup without people asking if I am sick. I know I can't be the only pale person that deals with this.
5. I bet you would look pretty with a nice tan.
Can I not be pretty with pale skin? This comment always feels like an insult although I don't think people mean it that way. Just let us pale people be pale.
6. I bet you burn easily.
Whatever gave you that idea? Most of the time I just lather up on the SPF 100 and hope for the best.
7. You basically sparkle.
People love to crack the vampire jokes when it comes to pale skin. Embrace the sparkle, pale people. It just adds to your beauty.
8. It's summer. How are you not tan?
It's called sunblock, shade and living on a prayer. Also, this is my tan. You should see me in the winter. I actually go up to ivory shade foundation in the summer. It's quite the step up from porcelain.
9. I wish I could have skin that fair.
Sometimes you actually find people that see a beauty in fair skin. It's a beautiful turnaround from the usual remarks about not having tan skin. When someone actually compliments my pale skin, I usually freeze up and have no idea what to say. It always makes my day knowing that there are people who see beauty in all shades of skin.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if your skin is dark, tan, white, olive, etc. It is the type of person you are that counts. Be beautiful and be bold. Be pale as hell if you would like. Let the comments roll off your porcelain skin because no matter the color, you are beautiful.
