Being a college student is a battle all in itself, but having an 8 a.m. is one of the most grueling experiences there is for a class-goer. You may think that since you went to school everyday at eight am then you can do the same thing in college. You may think that staying up all night to finish watching your Netflix pleasure of the week is a smart idea knowing you will have to be up in five hours. Let me tell you, you're wrong.
Waking up to the blaring sound of your alarm clock and seeing 6:15 a.m. leaves you with a sense of relief because five more minutes are available to you, but five minutes are never really five minutes. Next thing you know its 7:53 a.m. and you're heading out the door not wondering what your hair looks like or if you even have shoes on. Running through campus on a time crunch is not flattering because of the sheer terror on your face when the clock strikes 7:59 a.m. making you rush even more to get to class before your professor. Walking in at exactly 8:01 a.m. all eyes are on you because almost everyone has managed to make it to class on time, those seats that are vacant at this time usually means those individuals are not going to be present during today's class.
Once you head to your seat you can finally breathe and when the professor walks in after you, you know you're safe. Everything else seems to be going as usual, professors ask questions while the students stare blankly into space. Instead of frying my brain cells by looking at my phone to pass the time, I decide to write down all that I'm thinking while managing to make eye contact with the professor to let them know I am listening: kind of. As the end of class approaches your professor decides to talk about last nights homework assignment, but it's still sitting on your bedside because you put it there to remember to pick it up and put it in your bag the next morning. Your professor notices your assignment is not present and you explain how you were running late this morning: again. He leaves your side with a disapproving look. Why didn't I just stay in bed I wonder?
Having an eight am does become challenging throughout the semester because there are days when you think I should've just stayed in bed, but there are days when it's not as bad as you though it would be. My advice to anyone thinking about taking an eight am would be only take an eight am if it is absolutely necessary because college is hard enough without worrying if you'll be late to class every morning, especially if you're as OCD as I am when it comes to being on time to class.
