8 Tips to Help You Conquer Sorority Recruitment

Sorority recruitment can be intimidating and often confusing. Here are a few tips and pieces of advice to make your experience is a positive one.

1. Not sure if you should rush? Just do it.

I myself was on the fence about going through rush. The process is one unlike any other, and new things can be scary. But if you hate it, you can stop! Simple as that. You're not going to know if you like something unless you have the courage to try it. Sororities are a great place to find new friends and responsibilities, so why not give it a go?

2. Do not let others influence your decisions.

There are tons of stereotypes and rumors about each house. Don't let these determine your choice. Just because you like one house, your friend might have a completely different opinion. Recruitment is supposed to be an unbiased process, and it will remain that way if you listen to only one opinion: your own.

3. Not all of your friends will end up in the same house.

And that's okay. Everyone is put into a house because of their unique experiences during recruitment. Just because you're in different houses doesn't mean that you can't still be friends. Everyone will end up where they can be the happiest, with or without their friends.

4. Go with your gut.

Often times there will be difficult decisions that you will have to make and the best thing to do is follow your instincts. Pick the house that you feel you will be the happiest with and have the deepest connections.

5. Don't be afraid to talk to your Rho Gamma.

These girls have given up a lot to help you out. They are trained on how to help you through the recruitment process and have experienced it first hand. If you're stuck, turn to one of them.

6. Get lots of rest. Drink lots of water. Don't do anything stupid.

Recruitment is way more tiring than you would expect. Make sure you're taking care of yourself so that you can put your best foot forward each and everyday of rush. Remember you are trying to give each sorority the best version of yourself-- don't let other things get in the way of that.

7. Be yourself.

The last thing you want to do is advertise a false version of yourself and end up in a house where you don't truly fit in. Be you, talk about things you're passionate about, and focus on genuine connections.

8. Confidence is key.

Do not overthink and get flustered. Have confidence in not only yourself, but in the process. Everything happens for a reason, even if it doesn't feel like it at the time. Rush should be an exciting time to explore new possibilities in college, don't let doubt get in the way of that. Be confident that you will end up in the right place, and you will.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
