8 Times You Overslept, And It Completely Ruined Your Life

Sometimes we hit the snooze button at the absolute worst possible time.

You know that feeling when you had something really important to do? Suddenly, you find yourself delusional in bed as you frantically squirm to see the time and instantly slip into panic-mode.

Yeah, we’ve all done that. And we all hate that feeling. I, myself, am famous for oversleeping during the worst possible moments and it always comes back to bite me. Unfortunately, I’ve experienced way too many times chaotically springing from my bed into action, bolting down the street like Forrest Gump on that dirt path and hysterically cursing myself out while trying to figure out a way to smooth my tardiness over—only to have already missed the entire thing.

We’ve all been there. Here are a few times oversleeping has basically ruined our lives:

1. First Day of School

They do say that first impressions are everything, but how can you make a lasting one when you’re not even there? It really sucks to oversleep and miss the first day of school; it’s the easiest class you’ll have all semester. The only bright side to this is you get to miss those god awful icebreakers.

2. An Important Class

We’ve all done this. Whether its presentation day or a really boring yet important lecture about everything that’s going to be on the next test, it really sucks when you miss an important class. It’s especially frustrating when you overslept and wasted a perfectly good day on top of all the important material. The most frustrating thing is when you are completely prepared, fully studied and ready to conquer the class, and somehow you’re alarm doesn’t go off or you sleep through it. Probably shouldn’t have stayed up all night studying and trying to do the right thing after all.

3. An Exam

Unlike an important class, I won’t say important exam because all exams are pretty much important. It’s never usually OK to oversleep during one. Ah, waking up in the sheer feeling of panic which soon turns to a moment of chaos, then realization, then disappointment and failure... so much fun.

4. Job or Internship Interview

Obviously these situations are the most crucial oversleeping crises. If you missed an interview you already know you’re screwed, so you might as well just crawl up in a ball and cry now to get it over with.

5. First Day On The Job

You definitely messed up if you overslept the first day on the job, but oversleeping any day on the job can be pretty humiliating. Not to mention not good work your rep in the workplace. This is the worst kind of panic because it's much easier to talk your way out of getting a bad grade in class for being late, as opposed to getting fired.

6. An Audition

Oversleeping for an audition is especially upsetting because it’s usually a one-time chance only. Similar to exams, it's usually something we spend hours, days, weeks and even months preparing for, so it's really upsetting to know that you blew your chance. Sometimes, when life gives us opportunities, we waste them. Especially, when our life is in shambles.

7. A College Career Fair

I’ve actually done this before because, well, oversleeping has ruined my life. I was completely prepared with my resume, cover letters, portfolios, nice outfit and rehearsed conversations. I registered to attend a full-day of this once-a-year event with networking and career opportunities, yet somehow my alarm failed me. I found myself waking up in a panic during the last hour before it was over. I frantically jolted there and my flustered, unprepared self busted through the door like a bat out of hell with like 20 minutes left to spare. It really sucked at that point because I had missed all the action. People were wrapping up and I became the last of the pick. Never again.

8. Somewhere You Promised You'd Be

Nobody likes a bluff. And it's really bad when you can’t even help it because you simply can’t control your sleeping habits. Whether it's a birthday party, date, group project, or pretty much anything you said you would make it to, sometimes we really don't mean to bail when people think we do. Oversleeping during a social event sucks because you don’t mean to flake on your friends, but sometimes our bodies get the best of us. It’s the absolute worst to oversleep when somebody is relying on you. Sorry, I didn’t mean to let you down... I’m just sleepy!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
