8 Thoughts While Getting A Tattoo

Tattoos are great, even if your mom disapproves.

Tattoos are a great way of expressing yourself. You can get something that is personal to you as an individual or something just for fun. Although they may be expensive (and sort of painful), you can get something that will be memorable for forever. If you have any tattoos you may have thought some of these things...

1. "I wonder how long this is going to take"

Sitting in one spot for an extended period is no fun, especially if you went to get your tattoo alone (like I have). The time it takes to get a tattoo is worth it though, even if all you have to occupy yourself is some music and maybe a book.

2. "My family is going to be so disappointed"

Even though your family may not agree with what you're doing, you could be doing a lot worse. I mean, it is your body...so sorry grandma, but this dragon tattoo is cool.

3. "I hope I have enough money on me"

Personally, one of my biggest fears while getting a tattoo is the thought of not having enough on me to cover the cost...so I always bring way more than needed. If you have this fear too, ask your artist how much they charge (and how) ...it may alleviate your fears some.

4. "Should I talk to this guy (or girl)?"

The times I've gone to get a tattoo I was never sure if I should talk to my artist or just let them do their work. It’s such an awkward situation, but they're professionals (and human) so a little conversation shouldn't hurt anyone.

5. “Shit, I have to sneeze”

Sneezing always comes at the most inconvenient times, and sneezing while you have a needle filled with ink on your skin is one of those times. I always try holding it in or asking the artist to hold on for a couple of seconds.

6. “Ow”

Although it may not be the worst pain you have ever felt, it still hurts. Depending on the area you’re getting it, and the length of time it is taking…it may hurt a lot more than your other tattoos. Don’t let the pain discourage you from this experience though because the ending result is so worth it!

7. “It’s freaking cold in here”

Sitting immobile for even an hour can be a pain, and it gets pretty cold. A lot of shops keep their studios kind of chilly too…or is that just me?

8. “I wonder what I should get next”

Even though you just went through all that pain, and your limbs falling asleep every 10 mins you will always be back for more. Face it, tattoos are addicting…and each time you go back you fall more and more in love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
