It’s that time of the year again—finals. We have all dreaded this moment, but can’t wait for summer awaiting us as soon as they are finished. We are stuck in the mindset that it is summer already, therefore finding ourselves doing anything but studying. Here is a list of things we do instead of studying.
1. Clean.
Any other time, cleaning would be the last thing we would want to do. But for some reason when you should be studying, you think about how you can’t get any of your work done with all this clutter around you. So you spend the day doing your spring cleaning, only stopping when you realize it’s late and you should probably get to bed.
2. Stress.
Instead of actually sitting down and getting the work done, you sit there and stare at everything that should be done—as if it will magically finish itself. Don’t deny it, we have all been there.
3. Eat.
There is a reason that “ate” is in “procrastinate”.
4. Go outside.
The sun is finally out, the leaves are growing on trees, and the sky is blue again. We think, “Wow, what a nice day to waste inside studying.” Don’t worry, I agree.
5. Go through everything on your phone.
Social media, old messages, pictures… For some reason your phone becomes a whole lot more interesting when you should be doing something else.
6. Watch Youtube.
You may have started with good intentions, looking up videos to help you study. Somehow, however, you end up on a Miley Cyrus’ audition video for Hannah Montana. How did you get there? Who knows.
7. Watch Netflix.
Netflix is like that friend that always calls you when you are busy. It makes you abandon everything you were doing just to watch it. During finals, you need to make the healthy decision to break up with Netflix. Netflix is too needy and gets jealous of the attention that you have put onto your homework. I know it’s hard, but you can get back together once finals are over.
8. Sleep.
All of our worries and stress goes away if we just sleep it off, but we always end up with more work when we wake up.
Procrastination isn’t necessarily a bad thing (as long as you get everything done), but it does cause a lot of stress. Finals are going to come whether we like it or not, so might as well buckle your seat belt for the awful ride that is finals week. Just remember, the minute it’s over you will have the reward of summer.
