The Outer Banks, located off the coast of North Carolina, is an extremely popular tourist destination during the summer months. Even though it's a relatively small area there are still so many exciting things to do. After living on the Outer Banks for over a year I have decided on some of the best places to check out while on vacation.

1. The Beach

Obviously, the first thing that should be on anyone's list is the beach. The Outer Banks has beautiful beaches that stretch up and down its coast. The white sand is soft and the water is usually temperate, especially during the summer months. The beach is a good place to hang out whether you're lounging on a towel, playing in the sand, or swimming in the waves.

2. The Wright Brothers National Memorial

Not only is the Outer Banks a beautiful vacation spot, it is also the location of the very first flight ever conducted by Wilbur and Orville Wright. To commemorate this, there is a memorial park in Kill Devil Hills. Within this park, there is a museum dedicated to Wilbur and Orville's efforts as well as a monument dedicated to their success.

3. Jennette's Pier

Jennette's Pier is a gorgeous pier located in Nags Head. It was constructed in the late 1930s but had to be rebuilt in 2003 after suffering severe damage by a hurricane. It reopened in 2009 and has stood strong ever since. It serves as one of the most popular fishing spots for locals and tourists alike. The Pier also houses an education center.

4. The Lost Colony

Everyone that has gone to school knows the story of the Lost Colony of Roanoke. The site of this lost colony is located on Roanoke Island and has been transformed into a tourist destination. You can visit and learn more about the lost colony and the unbelievable story behind it. It is here that you can see the play, The Lost Colony which is an exciting and interesting re-enactment of the legendary tale.

5. Jockey's Ridge State Park

Jockey's Ridge State Park is the site of the tallest natural sand dunes located on the Eastern coast. There you can climb the sand dunes as well as fly kites, hang glide, or hike the nature trails. It is also the perfect place to witness the beauty of the sunset or sunrise.

6. Island Bookstore

Island Bookstore is one of my personal favorite places to go. If you enjoy a good book or are just looking for something quick to read while laying on the beach, this bookstore is the perfect place to find it. Island Bookstore is a small shop located in Duck, Corolla, and Kitty Hawk

7. H2OBX Water Park

H2OBX is a relatively new attraction on the Outer Banks. This waterpark opened in 2017 and offers a variety of water slides and attractions. When you need to take a break from the beach but the heat is still getting to you, definitely cool off at H2OBX.

8. Front Porch Cafe

The Front Porch Cafe is a local coffee shop located in Manteo, Nags Head, and Kill Devil Hills. It is a quaint and homey place that sells a variety of coffee drinks as well as bakery items. It is a perfect place to grab a cup of coffee and hang out with a friend or read a book.

No matter what you do or where you go, the Outer Banks is a beautiful place and is a wonderful place to vacation. Hope to see you there!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
