8 Things That Only University Of Washington Students Know

Each university differs from one another in terms of location, academic rigor, majors offered and many other factors. These are the factors that are usually well known to the public, however every school has those little quirks and famous traditions that make it unique. Here are a variety of things that make up UW.

1. Can I get a GO DAWGS?!

On every Dawg Saturday of Fall Quarter, you will hear this phrase shouted through campus as a sea of purple and gold makes their way down to Husky Stadium.

2. Thaiger room.

University Avenue is known as a hot-spot for small, local, cheap restaurants, and Thai restaurants are one of the most popular types of restaurants. Thaiger Room is the perfect late night snack. This little hole in the wall is a must to suffice all your Thai food cravings.

3. The puddles in the quad.

The famous UW quad is known for its beautiful cherry blossoms that bloom every spring, however the major puddles that emerge every time it rains are less recognized. Due to the old brick pathways, when it rains you better be ready to play hopscotch to avoid getting soaked.

4. Foster Library on a Monday Night.

For many of the students who live off campus in the Greek community, the closest library is only 5 minutes away! This easy commute makes Foster library the place to be and be seen. So if you were having a bad hair day, I would recommend the private cubicles in the school’s law library.

5. Jimmy John’s.

Jimmy John’s sandwiches are the perfect go-to dinner option when nothing else sounds appetizing. These sandwiches will be delivered right to your doorstep by Jimmy John’s bikers all around campus.

6. Feejays’ are spreading the campus.

Do you like to be warm and cozy? Do you ever get tired of wearing your zip up footie pajamas? Feejay’s are the perfect solution to these questions! Feejays’ are footie sweatpants that cover your feet with a warm fuzzy surface to keep you and your feet warm at all times! This Santa Cruz original product is perfect for the cold Seattle weather!

7. 6 a.m. registration.

One day per quarter students set their alarms at 5:55 a.m. to make the 6 a.m. deadline for class registration. This process either goes one of two ways: you press the magic “register” button at 6 a.m., you see the bright green check, and you resume sleeping. The other way, is you press the “register” button, see the angry red “x”, freak out, sign up for every “notify me” available, and wait anxiously until your classes open up. Either way, this process provides students with the opportunity to wake up early and be productive!

8. The Ave and U-ville is the perfect combo for success.

Between the grungy, cheap University Avenue and the spotless, expensive University Village, you will find everything you need. If they don’t have something at one location, just walk 15 minutes across campus to either the Ave or U-ville. These two opposite shopping and dining hot-spots have got you covered.

All of these little things make UW, UW. These little quirks help show our apperception for the school we love so much.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
