8 Things People with Tattoos are Tired of Hearing

Not your body. Not your opinions. 'Kay?

8 Things People with Tattoos are Tired of Hearing
Matt Borowick from Washington, DC, USA

1.) What does it mean?

In certain contexts, or with people I actually know, I don’t mind answering this question. However, it’s usually asked by someone in public who I’ve met two minutes ago, and they’re gawking at your ink like a hipster at an art gallery looking for depth in a painting of a dot. And God-forbid you don’t have a tattoo with meaning. They’ll look at you like you have two heads and ask-

2.) So you just liked the way it looked?

Bingo.

3.) Did it hurt?

A bunch of needles? Piercing my skin? No. Not at all. I actually didn’t even notice it one bit.

4.) You’re never going to get a job with those.

Thanks for your confidence in my actual skills and ability. It all depends on the field. Some are more lenient than others. People who know what job they want will usually plan their tattoos accordingly.

5.) No one’s going to take you seriously.

What does ink have to do with the ability to interact with someone and respect? And if a person judges you based on appearance in this day in age, then they’re the ones with the problem.

6.) What are you going to do with them when you get older?

Look like a bad-ass grandma/grandpa, that’s what.

7.) You’ll never find a partner with them

.

I hate this one. My tattoos are me. They are a part of me, and if someone doesn’t like my tattoos, they won’t like me. You wouldn’t marry someone that hates your child. It’s basically the same thing.

8.) Is it real?

This one blows my mind, and I can’t stop myself from laughing when people ask this. It's also a little insulting. My commitment issues aren't that bad. And do I really strike you as that much of a wannabe?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
