Welcome to October, the actual best month of the year. Binge watching nostalgic Halloween movies, an excuse to eat candy and dress up however you want... name a more perfect trio. Regardless of how great these months are, we all know that as the leaves start to fall, so do many other things in our lives.
Here are 8 things that we noticed are falling the fastest:
1. Our GPA's
It’s at that point in the semester where homework becomes a Sunday thing and since we're seniors, we feel pretend like we've pretty much got the hang of it. Because all of the serious exams are out of the way, we can coast through the rest of the year, not really worried whether it’s a’s, b’s or c’s that get our degrees. Despite the fact that this is a pretty common feeling among most of the humans around campus, stick it out and do just enough to get by. Graduation will be way too much fun to miss.
2. Our desire to leave the house
It’s approaching the time where the temperature is wavering between nice fall weather and arctic freeze, and because we’re from Maine, we all know what comes next. I’m sorry, but the colder it gets, the more I don’t want to leave my bed and cozy blankets because those are my day one's. But on a real note, not having to interact with people, freeze our asses off, or face adulthood sounds like a pretty awesome thing, but it is inevitable that we actually have to do all of these things for the rest of forever. SOS.
3. Our bank accounts
We’re all walking a “let’s hope this works,” or “too afraid to look at my online banking” meme. After all the bills, books and beer we’re forced to pay for throughout the semester, our accounts are probably looking pretty barren at this point. That doesn’t stop us from calculating how many $1 wells we can buy while still having enough for Dunkin' in the morning. My advice: let the struggle happen. Some day, we will most likely be financially stable, when we’re like 60 and no longer paying for student loans.
4. The number of shows on our Netflix queues
It’s a real life problem when you've watched almost every series on Netflix, re-watched Gossip Girl and Grey’s Anatomy 10 times and are settling with re-runs of HIMYM. Let’s just say a lot of quality time this semester has been spent with the bed and Netflix. On the plus side, neither one of them are going to leave you or tell you you're not good enough. Who could honestly pass up that type of stability.
5. Not us (in love)
Let’s all literally laugh together that we’re approaching our mid-twenties. When we were fifteen, we thought we would all have our shit together by now. PSA: WE DO NOT HAVE OUR SHIT TOGETHER. I’m sure there are many of us that actually feel this way, and honestly, I’m pretty sure it’s okay. Falling in love has moved to the very back of the list of things to-do in life, and despite how annoying every engagement photo we see on Facebook is, it’s totally okay. I guess knowing what you deserve and being picky is better than settling and being unhappy. Maybe we do have a tiny bit of our shit together… who knew.
6. Our desire to wear anything but leggings
You know you’re winning when you have successfully collected enough leggings to have a different pair to wear for two whole weeks without doing laundry. Of course, all of the best pairs get worn the first couple days and then the pairs you don’t like as much sort of get settled for. However, take no shame in the legging-wearing game. We all look at freshman who take hours to get ready for class and ask several questions: WHY? HOW DO YOU HAVE TIME? DO YOU SLEEP? WHY? I’ll just stick to black leggings forever.
7. Our hopes that we will pick apples with the men of our dreams
Along will every engagement photo, pregnancy announcement or new puppies that clutter our news feeds, in the fall, we inevitably see all the happy people picking apples, pumpkins and doing whatever other cliche fall thing exits. It’s like, if you don’t post a photo of him lifting you into the apple tree or you two biting the same apple, did it even happen? Did you really carve the pumpkin if you don't hashtag #fallthings? Though we’ve probably all been that couple once or twice, we’re secretly actually okay with not spending $30 on a bag of apples and pumpkins because we can purchase them for like $4 at the store, and we didn't even have to do any of the work.
8. Not us (for anymore bullshit)
We’re all approaching a time in our lives where we don’t want anymore bullshit. No fake friends and certainly no fake love. There is not enough energy after school, work, and social lives to pretend to like anyone, or hide when something makes us upset. We’re no longer taking stock in those who ghost us, play games or send mixed signals. It’s truly a great feeling when you realize that there’s no point in wanting anyone that doesn’t want us, or being upset that they don’t. We’re all great, and we all deserve that Jada and Will love, so don’t get down over that fuckboy, or the fake friend who only texts you when they need something. We’re so much better than that, and finally realizing it.
