We're not in Kansas anymore.

8 Things Nobody Told Me About Moving To The Northeast

1. "The Wizard of Oz" jokes will get old.

People always think they are so clever whenever stating “You’re not in Kansas anymore.” Yes, I truly am not in Kansas anymore. I am fully aware of that. Please stop stating the obvious.

2. The names of Massachusetts towns are impossible.

Seriously, don’t even try to pronounce them. “Sounding it out” doesn’t help. Your friends will make fun of you. Worchester, Billerica, Cochituate are just dumb, OK. If you don’t believe me, watch BuzzFeed’s “Americans Try to Pronounce Massachusetts Towns Names.”

3. Rotary is another name for roundabout.

"WHAT THE HECK IS A ROTARY?!” *I asked my friends as they laughed at me.*

4. Add “The Cape” and “The Vineyard” to your everyday vocabulary.

All of your northeast friends will be talking about their weekends on The Cape and you won’t fully understand what their talking about, but you’ll pretend and then Google exactly where Cape Cod is late at night when no one can judge you.

5. You’ll see whales everywhere.

Not literally, but there will be whales plastered on clothing all around you. You’ve heard of Vineyard Vines before, but you had no idea how much of a fashion epidemic it really is.

6. Everyone will think you lived on a farm.

Unbeknownst to basically everyone in the northeast, Kansas is not all "farmland.” I live in suburbia, people. I don’t raise cattle and I don’t ride horses. But, no matter how often you tell people that, they won’t really believe you.

7. No one will remember your name, but everyone will remember where you're from.

So get used to being called "KANSAS," because apparently that's a lot more memorable than your name.

8. You’ll realize how much Kansas Pride you have.

KU shirts will become everyday attire. People will notice how much Kansas attire you have and that will only drive you to buy more. And when (if) you ever meet another person that has ever even driven through Kansas you will automatically feel a connection with them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
