I have the most incredible mother. She was there with me through some of my hardest moments and she always wanted the best for me. However, there are certain things that only one person was able to teach me. Lorelai Gilmore, one of the most mysterious creatures in the whole world, has taught me life lessons that could only come out of the wittiest mouth. I’ve watched all 153 episodes of Gilmore Girls at least ten times, and some episodes have been watched more than others. These episodes have shaped some of my major opinions on the world.
Here are a list of traits and knowledge my own imaginary mother, Lorelai Gilmore, has passed down to her lovely daughter, me.
1. The importance of food.
Lorelai Gilmore exemplified a diet that was heroic. The amount of pop tarts she ate every single morning was something to be astounded by. She created a stomach of steel for her television show's daughter, Rory, by eating only chocolate, pizza and all junk food. She also created a stomach of steel for her real daughter's life (my life) by eating the same food while watching her on the big screen.
2. Coffee is a necessity.
I never drank coffee until I saw mom (Lorelai Gilmore, obviously) being so dependent on it. It was fascinating to watch her walk around town with a cup of coffee in her hand and being extra spunky. It made me want to be like her, so I tried the coffee. Now I need the coffee.
3. To make it known that you need coffee.
One of the most wonderful things about Mom is that she walks into Luke's Diner and he's prepared with coffee for her. He rarely even asks if she needs coffee. It is just a known fact that Lorelai needs her coffee.
This is something I've learned from her in between the 153 episodes of her wonderfulness. She taught me to make my coffee shop know that I need coffee. If I'm ever going into a new place, I needed to make it known that I need coffee. I need to throw a temper tantrum to get the coffee very soon.
This is Lorelai at her best.
4. Snow is the most magical thing.
Lorelai smelled snow before it ever came down. Snow was a magnificent present from Mother Nature. It was this event that led to some of her most wonderful moments. Her enthusiasm toward snow has caused me to believe that snow really does change the world. Snow creates magic.
As Lorelai said best, “Ladies and gentlemen we have flakes. Flakes have been sited. Flakage, if you will, have begun.”

5. Working hard naturally makes you crazy, and always have a back up plan.
She always made sure to have a back up plan too.
6. The days of the week.
Lorelai didn't teach me the days of the week song, but she did teach me the meaning behind each day. Monday's always terrible, Friday's game night and Saturday's the day of pre-rest because you must be rested to fully rest on the Sabbath.7. All the rules of love.
It's very well known that Lorelai had her fair share of heartbreaks, but with broken hearts comes incredible wisdom. Lorelai was always there for her daughter with insightful words and ice cream for Rory's broken heart.8. Be you. The fabulous, awesome you.
Lorelai was never afraid of being completely herself. She was always witty, outspoken and loving.
This is the most important thing I learned from mom, to always be completely myself. I can always say what I want to say and find the things funny that I find funny. There is only one you, and you should be fully you.
Thank you, Lorelai Gilmore, for being my television mom. You taught me many things through the 153 episodes.
As Rory said best...
