1. You live vicariously through each other.
You watched from the safety of your childhood bedroom as she got her first boyfriend, left for college, and had other amazing experiences. You sat with your nose pressed to the window and wondered, when will it be my turn? She certainly sparked some expectations in your head, but the tables probably turned when you started having those same experiences, like graduating from high school. Your older sister watched over you and reminisced about the good old days. Older sisters no doubt gave you something to look forward to and were there for you when your time came around.
2. Others question your sanity.
If you and your older sister spent numerous years together in the same household, unexplainable inside jokes were bound to pop up. Whether it was talking in funny accents like Theresa Caputo on "Long Island Medium" or quoting "Harry Potter" as many times as possible in one day, people probably questioned your mental state at times. But you and your older sister were probably having too much fun to stop and care about what other people thought of you.
3. Life just is not the same when they are not around.
Whether your older sister fled the nest to go to college, or it came time for you to go to college, there seemed to be a definite gaping hole in your heart when your BFF was no longer around. Who else was going to sit with you and watch a "Say Yes to the Dress" marathon for several hours? Even though your older sister was just a text message away, it still wasn't the same without her comforting presence.
4. Your wardrobe is endless.
Older sisters have an eye for fashion and probably helped shape your style. If your older sister was nice enough to let you borrow her clothes, then you basically hit the wardrobe jackpot. Going on vacation was bliss because you could just combine all of your clothes together in the same drawer. Hand-me-downs were also one of the greatest gifts that your older sister could provide for you (but only if they were fashionable).
5. You feel each other's pain.
Watching your older sister go through something difficult is the equivalent of having a sharp knife go through your gut. If your older sister is usually the strong one, seeing her hurt makes you hurt. You wish you could become a genie for a day and make it all go away, but you know it is much more complicated than that. If you've ever had to watch your older sister go through a tough time, you know exactly how this feels.
6. You always have somebody to hang out with.
So what if all of your friends are on vacation? You don't mind kicking it back at home with your older sister when there's nothing exciting going on. This way, you don't even have to change out of your sweatpants. Painful family get-togethers were also much easier if your had your older sister there to hang out with.
7. You share the same obsessions.
If you and your older sister are close, you probably developed many similar obsessions. Whether it's watching "The Bachelorette," crafting, or shopping, you both probably share at least one activity in common that you like to do together. If you and your older sister live apart, when you are finally reunited, these are your go-tos.
8. You have somebody always on your side.
Life has a tendency to throw some curve-balls that you just aren't ready for. Whether the conflict is related to the male species, school, or a friend, you can always count of your older sister to have your back. Chances are she's gone through something much similar and can relate. It's a constant comfort to know she's had your back in the past and always will in the future.
