There are many reasons why someone might choose to not go anywhere during Spring Break. Your parents could've told you no, you might not have had the money to go, or you may have just wanted to spend time with your family and other friends who came back into town. Whatever the reason, I think that everyone who stays home during Spring Break experiences these eight emotions.
1. Acceptance
Acceptance sets in right as the group you could've gone with leaves to head to the beach. You think to yourself, "I'll be ok! I made this decision to not go long ago and I'm sticking with it." Even after multiple friends try to convince you tag along just hours before they leave... "I can do this."
2. Contentment
It's day one of Spring Break and you're feeling good. While your friends have been cooped up in a car for eight hours, you got the best night of sleep that you've had this whole semester. You're well-rested and have come to terms with your decision, and you might even be happy you stayed home. You decide to make plans with old friends and you're actually pretty excited.
3. Realization
Your friends are finally at the beach and they make sure you know it. It was in that moment you realized... You messed up. You had your shot and you blew it.
4. Jealousy
Here comes the pictures, phone calls, and texts from the trip. You have to turn your GroupMe notifications off just to keep from seeing what's going on. That could've been you sending the typical view of the ocean from your condo or you in a bikini on the beach Snapchat to all of your friends, but noooo...
Here's when the crazy sets in. You're tired of all the Snapchats and texts and stories you're already hearing. You decided to just pack up and head down there. Eight hours in your car? No big deal. You franticly begin to search for your swimsuit, towels, and sunscreen, and begin a mental checklist of the clothes you'll want to carry.
6. Boredom
When it finally hits you that you can't exactly pack up in the middle of the night and meet your friends who are hundreds of miles away, you take a deep breath and start thinking rationally. "What can I do that's fun?", you ponder as you finish up your fourth Netflix series of the week.
7. Annoyance
You're nearing the end of what has become one of the longest weeks of your life and your patience is running thin. You're bound to snap on any unsuspecting victim at this point - family, friends, your dog/cat/hamster. It's not anyone's fault but your own, so you confine yourself to your room to keep the damage from spreading.
8. Defeat
It hits you there's no point in being sour. Spring Break is almost over and you'll be back with your friends before long. You decide to spend the remainder of your time with your family and friends since you probably won't be back in town for a while
