Welcome, my fellow students, to midterms week!
This is a week where our teachers decide to plan four tests, three papers and a presentation all in the same five days. Not only are we stressed out for these events but also we are also fighting the "It's almost spring break" bug that seems to catch everyone one time or another.
There are eight stages that everyone goes through to get through this gruesome week, whether we realize it or not.
1. Encouraged
It's Monday, the beginning of the week, and although you have a long ways to go, you are awesome and you are ready to take it on! You have planned, you have found the right study spots and you are ahead of the game!
2. Realization
All of a sudden, it's Wednesday, and you realize you haven't done anything productive the past two days except finish Season 4 of "New Girl."
3. Overconfidence
After realization has kicked in, it's time to give yourself a pep talk. You have this. You are smart. You could be a 4.0 student if you wanted to. You can be involved in three clubs, take 18 hours, be on a sports team and be super involved in your church because you are awesome and you have this.
4. Procrastination
After your self pep talk, you are feeling good. Your spirits are high, and you are ready to roll! As you pull out your flash cards, you remember that you fell asleep last night in the middle of Episode 7 and never got to finish it. Time for a study break!
5. Pessimistic Anger
It's Thursday, and you realize that you have so much work that there is not possibly anything positive left in this world. Not only is your mom calling you 100 times a day, but your teacher added an assignment and your roommate left the brush out only for you to not look and step on it. How dare she.
6. Mental Breakdown
It's Thursday night, and you are having a conversation with your friend about what all you have to do tonight and all of a sudden you get light headed, you cannot take a deep breath and your eyes start watering as you feel your heart slowly speed up.
7. All Nighter
Here's the end, the only solution to this problem that we can only blame ourselves for—it is time to pull out the All Nighter. You get your food out, your computer charged and your flash cards ready; it's go time. Oh that already has three shots of espresso in it? Yes, I'll take three more.
8. Success!
You're finally done, and although you don't feel overconfident anymore, you have done the best you could and you are sleep deprived so that last page that you didn't finish doesn't seem as big a deal anymore. Turn it in!
Midterms are stressful and life is hard, but at the end of the week when everything is turned in and finished, just remember that it's only the middle of the semester and Schmidt happens.
