We have just reached the half way point in the 2015 year. With six months behind us, many songs have taken the charts by a storm. However, only eight have slayed. Their catchy beats and meaningful lyrics are both causes for their success.
1. See You Again
Written in the memory of Paul Walker for Furious 7, this beautiful tribute topped the chart for 11 weeks. Its beautiful message makes it one of (if not) the best songs of 2015. Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth not only topped the Billboard’s Hot 100, but also the Hot Rap, Digital Songs, and many others.
2. Uptown Funk!
Mark Ronson’s upbeat pop song featuring Bruno Mars, which has been played to death at school dances, parties, and of course the radio got everybody yelling “Don’t Believe Me Just Watch!”. It maintained its number one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 during the spring for 14 weeks.
3. Bad Blood
Taylor Swift recently released her movie-like music video for Bad Blood in which she collaborated with Kendrick Lamar. The duo surprised everyone at the Billboard music awards with how badass their music video was. Their video what ultimately caused an instantaneous popularity spike for the song. As a huge Taylor Swift fan myself, I honestly was not really crazy about this song until the video debuted.
4. Love Me Like You Do
Ellie Goulding’s catchy song was made for 50 Shades of Gray. The song hit number one on a variety of the Billboard Charts. Her song reminds us not to hold out or wait for love and to just go for it.
5. Take Your Time
Ladies and Gentlemen, Sam Hunt did it again. We first heard of him last year when his song Leave The Night On became popular. This year country artist Sam Hunt dominated Billboard’s Hot Country list for 11 weeks with Take Your Time. The song basically sums up the thoughts every guy has when he wants to talk to a girl. If you have not heard this song yet, take (some of) your time to do so. It is worth a listen, even if you are not the biggest fan of country music.
6. Take Me to Church
Hozier’s song started its ascent to popularity last year, but ultimately did not slay until this year when it topped Billboard’s Hot Rock chart for 13 weeks. This metaphorical song sends strong messages about religion and love, which are both much needed.
7. I Don’t Fuck With You
Just like Hozier’s Take Me Church, Big Sean and E-40 started climbing the charts last year in December. It topped Billboard’s Hot Rap and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop for six weeks in 2015. He makes it crystal clear that he does not care about who you are, he is not going to give you the time of day. He not only slayed the charts, but also gave us the perfect song to slay our enemies with.
8. Shut Up and Dance
This song by up and coming rock band, Walk the Moon, has probably been in your head more times than you can count. It is amazing and annoying all at the same time. Currently topping the Billboard’s Hot Rock chart for 14 weeks I am sure it will continue to stay for many more.
