People tend to either identify themselves as “cat people” or “dog people.” It’s as if we’ve collectively made the decision that we have to like one or the other, and fiercely defend our chosen side. For me, this mostly rings true. I’ve grown up with cats my entire life, and have never known a time where my house didn’t contain one. While I love dogs too, I will always remain loyal to felines. If you identify with these signs, you probably are too.
- You know, deep down, your cat is the boss.
While we can pretend like we are ultimately in charge over our cats, we know that at the end of the day, our cat makes the rules. A cat will always make itself very clear when it wants something or doesn’t like something, and no amount of “training” will change that. Your cat will simply decide when it wants to agree with you.
2. Your schedule revolves around your cat.
When your cat decides to wake up in the morning, no matter how early, he or she will make sure you are getting up too. This can be demonstrated in a variety of ways, such as meowing incessantly, jumping on your face, or, as my cat recently tried, scaling the walls. When it’s time for breakfast, you’d better have the Fancy Feast ready.
3. You don’t care when people say they don’t like cats.
If you have a cat, and you’ve told people you’re a cat person, you’ve probably heard someone say: “Gross, I HATE cats.” I never really know what to say to this, other than that person clearly doesn’t how great cats can be. Cats, nor their owners, don’t care if you don’t like them.
4. You prefer animals that don’t lick your face or smell bad.
*Shudders.*
5. You like an animal that doesn’t require constant attention.
What’s great about cats is that, for the most part, they’ll take care of themselves. They’ll let you know when they need something, or when they want to be left alone. You don’t have to walk them, and they’ll still love you just as much as a dog will.
6. You look at people strangely when they freak out over dogs.
Unless it’s a puppy, I probably won’t get that excited.
7. You freak out over cats.
If you’ve ever seen me near a kitten, you’ve probably seen me close to tears.
8. You know cats will always be the better species.
While dogs can be great, there’s a reason cats were worshipped in Ancient Egypt. Lions are the kings of the jungle, and cats are the kings of domestic household pets.
