8 Signs You Grew Up Disney
Lauren Sanford

You’ve been surrounded by Disney from day one when you were brought home to a nursery decorated with Mickey and his pals. Disney has intertwined itself into your life forever and you can’t imagine what life without it would be like. If these things accurately describe your life, then you were probably lucky enough to have grown up Disney.

1. All Your Halloween Costumes Were Disney Related.

No matter what you were into at that time, when it came time to pick a Halloween costume you knew it had to be Disney related. From princess dresses to Monsters Inc., you knew you had to have them all.

2. Your room *always* had a splash of Disney, no matter how old you got.

When you went away to college, your Finding Nemo and safari Mickey Mouse went with you. There was no question that your Mickey ears would be on top of your dresser when you got to school. You may be “too old” for a little mermaid bedspread now but you know you’re never too old for a little splash of magic in your life.

3. You can recognize any Disney tune, any time.

When you got a car the first thing blasting out of your stereo was a Disney song. You loved Disney music more than life itself. Hakuna Matata was your go to jam for both bad and good days.

4. Disney movies were pretty much all you watched.

If you had to pick a movie, you were definitely going to pick a Disney one. Your friends sometimes got upset when you tried to make them watch Lady and the Tramp for the hundredth time but that was okay because you knew it was *way* better than any other romance movie out there.

5. You only watched Disney Channel (Because it totally felt like cheating to watch Nickelodeon).

You picked up the remote and went right to the good stuff. Lizzie McGuire, Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and everything in between. You had to catch up on all your favorites. Even through your adult years you’ve been known to tune into the Disney Rewind and check out your old crush Jake Ryan just one more time. Sometimes your day just wasn’t complete if someone didn’t draw Mickey ears in the corner of your tv and exclaim that “you’re watching Disney Channel.”

6. You’re constantly on the countdown to your next Disney trip.

As soon as you get back from one Disney Trip it’s on to planning the next. You can always tell someone how many days are left until your next trip. You know exactly how long until you’ll be back home and in your *happy place*.

7. You get weird looks when you tell people how many times you’ve been to Disney.

“33 TIMES?!” Yes, Deborah, 33 times and no I do not get tired of it. You have zero shame about your Disney addiction and know that you will never stop going back. Because that would mean growing up and that’s not fun at all.

8. You can never get enough Disney *magic* in your life.

Disney has been and always will be your one true love. You could not begin to imagine a world without magic and pixie dust and that’s perfectly fine. Every time you go home you know its where you belong. Disney is home and you know there’s nowhere as wonderful or magical as the happiest place on earth.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
