Your sister's coming-of-age can be a weird time, and totally feels like it's coming out of nowhere. She doesn't like the same games or toys that she used to, she dresses like an adult, and the way she talks is different.
Here are eight signs that your little sister is growing up, as told by "Psych," in honor of the movie coming out in December.
1. She starts talking like a teenager.
Her voice slightly changes and her vocabulary changes a lot. She doesn't sound like a little kid anymore.
2. Her wardrobe changes.
The clothes she picks out are from the Juniors' or maybe the Women's section, and they are distinctly different from the graphic tees and jeggings she used to wear. She picks out mature looking blouses and dresses--clothes she completely avoided a few years ago.
3. She gets sassy.
Hey now, I was there too (Still am, I guess?). But it's true. The mood swings, hormones, and sass are inevitable.
4. She spends more time with adults than playing with little kids.
Remember when adult conversations were insanely boring? Back when we were little? And then we grew up and started discussing politics, beliefs, and relationships. Now your sister is making that transition too, and isn't inclined to play with the younger cousins.
5. Her sense of humor develops.
They understood what the adults are laughing at and the things they laugh about with their friends are totally different than they used to be.
6. She has an increased understanding of the world around her.
Your sister used to be ignorant about so many of life's confusing questions, as you used to be as well, but you are seeing her eyes slowly open to all of the "I'll tell you when you're older" sort of issues.
7. She establishes her friend groups, interests, and beliefs.
Although these might change throughout high school and college, your sister gains a confidence in who she is that you've never seen before.
8. You are able to have deeper, more honest conversations with her.
You hit this adult stage before your sister, so you've probably spent a few years working through that without being able to talk to her about certain things. Even though it's sad to see her grow and change so much in what seems like a very short time, you know your relationship with her can only deepen as you both grow older.
