8 Signs It's Tech Week

The week before the show, also known as the worst week of the year, and the week before the best.

Anyone who has ever participated in a theatrical production can tell you that no amount of rehearsal can prepare you for the notorious hell week-- AKA the week before opening night.

Here are just a few things that all theater kids know all too well....

1. Your most recent text is probably, "what's for dinner?" and someone in the hallways asks you the same thing at least 3 times a day.

There are three types of people when it comes to ordering food during tech week: The organizer, who collects money, calls in, figures out the tip and forms lifelong relationships with every delivery guy she/he has on speed dial, the one who can't decide what to get, and the one who never has enough money on them.

2. You fall into bed the minute you get home.

If you make it home that is...

3. Caffeine becomes your best friend.

Everyone becomes a coffee drinker. (God bless the extra large!)

4. You learn that anything can be a bed if you truly try hard enough.

Making promises to wake each other up and setting countless alarms on your phone to make sure you're awake in time for when you're called on-stage again becomes a daily routine.

5. The auditorium becomes a makeshift classroom.

You will try to complete your homework every break you can because by the time you're home you're basically hopeless and dead.

6. When you're not off-book yet, so your hand is your secret script.

Also motivation for dinner... "Pizza today <3"

7. Last minute ad sales and missing "who's who" press deadlines so you can send out the Playbill.

Just make deadlines, okay? It will make so many lives so much easier.

8. Someone is crying.

Everyone has a breaking point, and sometimes the stress of five-hour rehearsals will get you there. Cry. It's important. Let it out and find someone to hug because you're all in the same boat.

But, remember, after the longest week of your life it will be showtime and it will fly by. No matter how tough tech week will get make sure you eat pizza, drink fluids, sleep when you can, hug and get ready for your *cue SNL sketch music* ...

CRUCIBLE CAST PARTY!! (Or "whatever show you're doing"'s cast party.)

Maybe Lin Manuel Miranda will be there too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
