Now comes the moment that every college student dreams of, their senior year!
Once the disillusioned freshman-sophomore years has passed you start to realize how money-hungry schools can be and that you're ready to see the real world outside of college.
Along with being a senior comes the months of sleep deprivation and exhaustion trying to do everything to make sure you graduate this year.
As I enter my senior year - hopefully, the last here at KSU - I can’t help but notice not only had I changed but the school had too.
1. Cost of campus housing starts to piss you off.
When I first transferred here the monthly payment for housing didn't seem too bad, especially not when comparing it to my last campus apartment. But as the semesters went on so did the prices. Now it's unjustifiable to pay $695 for an apartment that may or may not be cleaned out over the summer, the trash bins are constantly overflowing because they haven't been picked up, the wifi is complete crap (and everyone knows it) and the kicker, it feels like living in a hostel versus an actual apartment. They make it seem like you’re saving money since everything is included but are you really?
2. Freshmen make you feel old.
I don’t know what is in the water but somehow freshmen are starting to look younger and younger. Once they tell you their age, you automatically feel like the Methuselah who’s been at college for eons. And do you want to know something else? They always assume I’m a freshman too! Seeing their enthusiasm for being first-timers is both cute and a little sad at times. Because in a few short semesters they’ll realize as fun as college has been, there’s even a whole more exciting life waiting for them.
3. You're in the first group to register for classes.
We get first dibs on choosing what classes to get into. Yay! No longer do we have to wait, fingers-crossed, hoping the one class that is offered only once a year won’t be filled by the time we can register.
4. You've finally reached the highest financial aid bracket.
If you’re eligible for financial aid and fill it out in time, as you senior you get even more aid. That’s more refund money to blow all on Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran tickets. Spend it wisely.
5. All your facebook friends are married, engaged, or pregnant.
Seriously why is it every time one person gets engaged, it starts this endless cycle that doesn’t end until you’re walking down the aisle? I can’t go a week without seeing a friend or mutual friend announcing their big news on social media.
6. You know all the best spots on campus.
As much as I love the library it tends to be overcrowded a good majority of the time, so it forced me to find new places to study. I’ve discovered some great spots on campus that not only have great wifi connection but most students are unaware of its existence.
7. You’re well aware of the after hours parking policy.
As an on-campus resident, I’m part of the lucky group of students who don’t have to commute from home. If I’m too lazy to walk to the gym – which has happened numerous times – I can park in the visitor's lot or anywhere else on campus and not get ticketed.
8. You’ve mapped out the exact classes you need to take in order to graduate.
Whether you need to take that one Gen-ed class you’ve put off for some time or need to start applying for that internship, you’ve got everything planned out to the tee. Nothing can stop you from graduating…you say with your fingers-crossed.
