1. The experience of living on your own.
The little taste of freedom that you get by living on campus is great. Although you may have a roommate, you are not living in the same place as your parents and it allows you to feel what it would be like to live on your own.
2. Making more friends by living in a dorm building.
Most freshman buildings allow you to prop your doors open. This gives the ability to meet your nextdoor neighbors, or the rest of those who live on your floor without having to make too much effort. Some of those people you meet freshman year may end up being your future roommates and your best friends.
3. Your friends will live in the same building or even better, the same room.
Along with making friends while living in a dorm, those friends will also most likely live in the same building as you. You will not have to drive 10-15 minutes to visit, you can just walk down the hall or to the next floor to hang out and watch
Netflix. Also, your roommates may be your best friends for the rest of your life.
4. No more rules from your parents, just the RAs.
Living at college means living on your own and living without the rules of your parents. There is no more having to do chores, you no longer have a curfew, and you can eat and sleep whenever you want.
5. You don't have to cook your own food, you can just go to the dining hall.
Okay, so maybe the dinning hall food is not the greatest, but it sure is a lot better than going to the kitchen to cook your own food. Let's be real, no one wants to waste their time cooking food when they can be using that spare time watching Netflix and eating their food from the dinning hall.
6. The ability to get more involved by being on campus.
By being living on campus you can see all the flyers that the RA's post in your dorm building. Many of these flyers are about events that will be hosted on campus such as Greek life recruitment, movie nights, bingo and more. If you're at home you may miss out of these opportunities because you did not hear about them.
7. Being able to sleep in much later.
If you didn't take any dreaded 8 a.m. classes, you can sleep in for that reason, but also living on campus means your classes are at most a 15 minute walk away. If you commute you have to wake up early in order to drive to campus and make it to your class on time.
8. You're not wasting any gas.
If you are a commuter you are constantly driving back and forth to campus and with all that driving that means filling your tank more frequently. Living on-campus, you never need to use your car so that money you would use for gas can be used for food or a Netflix subscription.
