8 Reasons Why Cousins Make the Best Friends
We Heart It

1. You Grew Up Together

You pretty much know each other like the back of your hand. They know everything about you. Their family treats you like one of their own because you are also their family.

2. They’re Like Another Sibling – Except They Get to go Home

It is very easy to get annoying by your siblings. Growing up all you do is argue and pick on each other. How many people get annoyed by their friends when they’ve been around them for too long? Yeah a lot. That’s the beauty of having close cousins, by the time you started to get annoyed with them they were on their way out the door back to their house.

3. They Don’t Lie To You.

When you ask “Does this outfit make me look fat” they will not sugar coat it. They will give you their honest answer unlike a sibling who would say yes to make you upset or a friend who would just tell you what they want to hear.

4. They Give the Best Advice

Cousins aren’t afraid to hurt your feelings. They will say what they believe is necessary to say. They always seem to have the right advice. The fact that you share blood with them makes them to be a tiny part of you so they always seem to know just what to say to make the best of any situation.

5. They Know How to Have Fun

Family parties are known to be the most fun- especially if you grew up with a big family. The family parties are often the highlight of the year. By being appropriately cultured together you two know just how to have fun.

6. They're Trustworthy

You have never had to second guess whether or not you can tell them anything. You know no matter what is said to them they will take it with them to the grave

7. They Always Know what’s Best for You

They know what you deserve and what you don’t and they have no issue telling you that. They will always remind you of how you should be treated and let you know when there is someone in your life who probably doesn’t deserve to be there.

8. They Love You

They’re family- their love is unconditional. There isn’t anything you can say or do that would make them not love you anymore. And because they are family, they are in your life forever.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
