8 Reasons You Should Aspire to Be British

1. Music.

Their taste in music is rockin' with older bands like The Rollings Stones, The Beatles, and Pink Floyd...

... to modern day Mumford and Sons, Muse, One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay the British kill it with music!

2. TV Shows.

The British have an eye for drama and their TV shows reflect the raw and honest emotions of their culture.

"Dr. Who" aired in the 1960s on BBC. Altogether, there have been 12 doctors since it began.

The most popular modern British TV shows are "Sherlock," based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novels about a sleuthing detective and his sidekick John Watson...

"Skins," thatran from 2007-2013 as one of the leading British drama shows about angst-filled teenagers learning life lessons in sexuality, individuality, emotions and growing up...

and "Downton Abbey" has aired from 2010 to the present and catalogs the lives of a posh British family living in the early 1900s.

3. Royalty.

Every movie I watched growing up had a princess, prince, king or queen. In Britain, this is actually a thing. Queen Elizabeth is the second-longest reigning monarch in over 1,200 years according to The British Monarchy online. Today the most famous royals are Duke and Duchess William and Kate and let's not forget their cute baby, Prince George!

4. Fashion.

The Brits have always stood out in the fashion world for their unique sense of style. Wacky, odd, weird are the terms to describe '80s and '90s fashion, but today, Brit's are known for 'street style' which usually pairs a coat because of the weather with some neutral colors and a splash of a bright accent piece. Fashion icons include journalist Alexa Chung, model Kate Moss and actress Carey Mulligan.

5. Food.

London is famous for their numerous pubs and local seafood.

You can never go wrong when you have fish and chips, biscuits and TEA!

6. Slang.

British youth use the most useful slang, something you can start picking up if you watch "Skins." The most popular are:

Mate: used in reference to a buddy or friend. "What up mate?"

Cheers:Americans use this in reference to celebrating something, the British use it as a way of saying thanks, "Cheers for doing my laundry."

Knee's Up:refers to a party. "I went knee's up this weekend!"

Taking The Piss:while this sounds funny to Americans it means to mock something or make fun of someone. "SNL was taking a piss to Michelle Obama's arms."

Tosser: used by Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, literally means a male masturbator, but usually is used in reference to the dislike of someone.

Bollocks:can be used as an expression of disbelief or referring to a man's testicales. "Wait what?! Bollocks!"

Dodgy:refers to something illegal or off-putting. "That bar was a little dodgy last night."

Wanker: best British insult, means a**hole.

7. Accent.

OH MY GAWD. Who doesn't die to hear a British person greet you in their sexy British accent? Just picture Tom Hiddleston saying this to you:

Or Emma Watson:

8. HOT MEN EVERYWHERE!

Let's just run through this list, shall we?

Matthew Lewis — yes!

Daniel Radcliffe — yes again!

One Direction boys, just all the boys — yes times five!

Nicholas Hoult — yes sir!

Jude Law — yes please!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
