Well, it's official—we've reached the point of winter break where the excitement of being home is starting to fade and the desire to get back to school becomes stronger by the day. While it's great to reunite with your family, friends, pets, and favorite hometown restaurants, a month away from college somehow feels a lot longer than it actually is. Maybe it's because the long-awaited holiday season has officially come to an end, or maybe we've just gotten our much-needed break from classes fix by now. Whatever the case may be, I think it's safe to say that college life is starting to call my name again. Here are a few reasons why, like me, you might be ready to get back to your home away from home:
1. You miss being on campus.
Whether or not your campus has the most eye-catching scenery in the world, there's a sense of community that comes alongside being away at school that not even your hometown possesses. It's like a different world there. And if on top of that the scenery just so happens to also be on point, how could you not miss being surrounded by it every day?
2. You're excited to see your school friends.
When we're at school, we miss our family and friends at home. Naturally, when we go home we're going to miss our friends at school. How could we not? We're basically surrounded by them day in and day out, seven days a week. It only seems right to count down the days until you're all reunited.
3. Working a real job is starting to get old.
Granted, having money in your wallet probably isn't—but being away at school almost feels like the perfect excuse to not be a normal, working adult. After all, we're busy college kids. Who has time for a job that isn't work study a few hours a week?
4. You actually miss class
I know, dare I say it...
5. You miss your independence.
Maybe your parents respect the fact that you're no longer a little kid, and doing what you want, when you want all the time is no longer an argument like it used to be. But there's just something about being at home that almost seems to knock your sense of independence. Even if you are there doing your own thing, being back under your parents roof feels a lot less adult-y than living on your own does.
6. Weekends at home just aren't the same anymore.
The high school party days are over. You've most likely drifted from 90 percent of your high school friend group, and even the people that you've stayed close to you don't get to see very often because everyone's busy doing their own thing. This must be what growing up feels like.
7. You miss your college social life.
Because even when you feel like there's nothing to do, there's always something to do.
8. You miss having a daily routine.
Between classes, extracurriculars, a gym regimen, scheduled meal times, etc., having a daily routine makes you feel a lot more put-together, and I mean, that's always a nice feeling.
9. You actually enjoy being there.
While nothing can ever replace home, it's nice to know that you've created a life for yourself at school that you're excited to get back to. There's a sense of reassurance in missing it while you're away—I mean, you must be doing something right if you find yourself getting anxious at the thought of going back.
