Sisterhood is forever

8 Reasons I Love My Greek Life Sisters

Joining Greek Life was one of the best decisions I’ve made in college. I understand that it’s not for everyone, but maybe this will help you rethink Greek Life. Here are 8 of the million reasons why I love my sisters:

They hold me accountable.

If I have a paper due at midnight, they won’t let me go out for food after meeting. Instead, they’ll stay up with me and we’ll grab Cookout after I turn it on time.

They push me.

Both literally and figuratively. When I’m hesitant about trying new things, they encourage me. They help me continue to pursue my dreams.

They teach me.

Everyone of them has her own strengths and passions. We come from various backgrounds, and we also have various majors. I love how different we are because that’s what makes our group so unique.

They listen.

It could be two o’clock in the afternoon or two o’clock in the morning — they’ll still listen. We vent about serious problems and talk about what happened on the last episode of the Bachelor. There’s always an ear ready for me.

They’re reliable.

When they say they’re committing to something, they’re in for good. If something important does come up, they’ll tell you ahead of time so that you’re never left hanging.

They’re honest.

They’re the first to tell you when food is stuck in your teeth, they're the first to tell you if that guy you’re into is good for you (or not), and they’ll be kind and loving when they tell you.

They pray for (and with) me.

I have never felt afraid to ask my sisters for prayer because I know they love me and that they’ll actually pray for me. It also reminds me to be praying for them: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them” (Matthew 18:20).

They’re my best friends.

Late night Cookout runs, study sessions, social events. All while pursuing Jesus together. What more could you ask for?

Thanks, pandas. You’re the best.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
