The past spring and early summer in Texas was a wet one. I remember walking to class and being caught in the rain on a weekly basis, and I promised myself not to complain about the blistering Texas heat if I could just see a little sunshine.
With a temperature forecast in the 90s or higher for the past few months, I am commending myself on staying true to that promise. However, the leaves are getting crunchy and the air is getting crisp and I am so excited.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons for many reasons, and no, I don’t care how “basic” that sounds. In preparation for the best time of the year, I’ve compiled a list of things I’m especially looking forward to this fall.
1. Football. I grew up in a small town in Texas with no football (talk about blasphemy). So, I get especially excited to cheer on a sport that I was deprived of for so long. From rocking orange and blue on Saturdays for the Bearkats, to changing in red and blue to support the Texans (and J.J. Watt), I’m stoked for football season.
2. Scarves. No matter how ridiculous this seems, I have an entire drawer just for scarves. Sadly, this drawer has gotten very little use the past few months and I’m dying to crack it open and rock some warm neck wear.
3. ALL THE BOOTS. "Blame it all on my roots, I showed up in boots" is not only a line from a Southern anthem, it’s also my motto when autumn rolls around. Cowboy boots, combat boots, riding boots, fringe boots and booties are all my favorite kinds of footwear.
4. Starbucks seasonal menu. *Cue the white girl jokes* whether you’re a pumpkin spice latte kind of girl or a salted caramel lady, the seasonal menu is life changing. I may or may not have squealed when I saw that I could buy pumpkin loaf the other day.
5. The time change. An extra hour of sleep is exactly what a college student needs, just make sure it’s not an extra hour spent on an all-nighter.
6. The walk to class. I’m a naturally optimistic person, so I try to use my campus’s sad excuse for parking as a way to enjoy my walk to class. However, that walk is not as happy when the sun is beating down on you and you’re sweating bullets. I’m excited for the crisper air to make this walk more pleasant.
7. Halloween movies. Personally, I’m a chicken so I don’t pay much attention to actual horror movie. If that’s your thing, then you’re probably already stoked with movies like Sinister 2 and The Visit in theatres now. I, however, am more excited about Hocus Pocus. Nothing beats the Sanderson sisters.
8. Literally everything with pumpkins. I will definitely be checking out Target’s dollar bin to get all of the Halloween socks that I can. As well as those sugar cookies that don’t actually taste great but you buy them anyway just because they have little pumpkins and ghosts on them.
In other words, cooler weather needs to come and stay before I go insane.
