Here we are, in college, having the times of our lives. That is, until our birthday rolls around. Then we have to go through a few crises until we can actually enjoy a birthday (and by then, it's usually over.) Even though I could find a million, here are eight reasons your birthday starts to suck in college.
1. It starts to sneak up on you.
There you are, studying for exams, writing papers, and pulling all-nighters, and before you know it you look at the calendar. Your birthday is right around the corner.
2. The crisis begins.
Once you acknowledge the fact that your birthday is coming, you then panic about the fact that you have aged another year and managed to accomplish nothing.
3. People have expectations.
After your mild panic attack, your friends start asking questions about what your plans are. They assume that regardless of what day of the week it is, it is birthday rager time, and it is up to you to plan it.
4. Going out was a bad idea.
Your squad wants to celebrate a night all about you, and it somehow ends up to opposite of that. One friend loses his shoes, another cries in the middle of the bar about some guy she’s obsessed with, and the others are all running around. You? You just try to shove everyone into a cab before everyone gets busted.
5. Besides your 21st, birthdays lose all value.
Yes another year you have been blessed to have, and you aren’t dead yet. Yay. Yes, I know a birthday is more than cake and presents, but you stop feeling different. It is just a new number to associate yourself with.
6. The magic wears off fast.
Even if you have the most magnificent birthday ever imaginable, once it strikes midnight, it isn’t your day anymore. We’re onto someone else, something else, or something new.
7. College is overpopulated.
Because there are tens of thousands of people on this campus, it is almost impossible to be the only student that has a birthday today. How many times do you go to a bar or restaurant and there are at least three other people stumbling around yelling “IT'S MY F****** BIRTHDAY!!!”
8. You aren’t with your parents.
Some people see this as a blessing; I see it as a bummer. How could you feel any more special than spending your birthday with the people that gave you this day to begin with?
Regardless of the crap that comes along with a messy college birthday, It is still the day you were put on this planet, and that deserves a cheers and a hug. Happy birthday to anybody celebrating out there!
