Marianas Trench, a Canadian rock/alternative band has had my heart for quite some time now. I've been listening to them more than usual this summer, so I thought I'd rank their songs and see if you agree.
1. Porcelain
When the guitar riff starts, and then there's the melody from Journey's "Faithfully." My. Shit.
Favorite lyric: It's alright if you don't know what you need
2. One LoveThis is THE anthem for the one that got away. Don't listen to it after a breakup, it'll make you feel even worse but is still a beautiful song. Released as a single from "Astoria," its popularity set the tone for the rest of the album.
Favorite lyric: And you've been wishing but you don't know how to stay, and I've been broken but I'm better every day
3. Ever After
I think of this as an entire musical condensed into 6-7 minutes. There are so many transitions into so many different sounds, your head kind of spins in a fantastic way.
Favorite lyric: This place was beautiful and mine, but now it's just a bottom line, barely comes to mind, but ever after was mine
4. Fallout
The perfect song for when you literally feel like there is nothing left for you to do to make something better. It's also probably one of the best songs to show off Ramsay's voice.
Favorite lyric: You're making it look so easy, what comes and goes, I'd go without
5. Stutter
Another one that shows off Ramsay's voice beautifully, especially in the first verse. The first verse makes me feelt all the things.
Favorite lyric: I just can't stand leaving you alone tonight, it's too late to know, already taken me forever just to try to know
6. Who Do You Love
Heard this one at a show before Astoria was released. It is absolutely stunning live and recorded. Harmonies, harmonies, harmonies. That is all.
Favorite lyric: I'll miss the way that you saw me, or maybe the way I saw myself
7. Good To You
This one makes you want to find the perfect person for you who will treat you just how you should be treated. It's great as a duet with Jessica Lee.
Favorite lyric: Maybe it's me, maybe I only see what I want
8. By Now
This song has a catchy chorus. The guitar has definitely made it one of my top choices.
Favorite lyric: If I could say what you'd like to hear, I'd whisper it's only temporary
