Ten years, 12 seasons, 250 episodes: "Grey's Anatomy" has tugged at our heartstrings since 2005. From the original cast to the new interns, we have followed these characters through it all. We lost it when Denny died an hour after he proposed to Izzie. When Meredith finally professed her love for Derek, we could not contain our excitement. The plane crash broke our hearts over and over and over again. Lexie, Mark, and every other character no longer with us will always hold a special place in our hearts. Throughout the years, here are eight life lessons that we have learned from our favorite medical drama.
1. Everybody Needs A Person
No one has to make it through life alone. Through both the good and the not-so-good times, it's important to have someone who you can rely on. Christina and Meredith prove that no matter how chaotic life gets, it's important to make time for that person who really matters to you.
2. Be Confident
Lil' Grey knows what she's talking about. If you know that you love someone and that they love you back, nothing else really matters. People can judge you all they want. At the end of the day, however, it's important to follow your heart, stay true to what you believe in, and do what is best for you.
3. It's OK To Let Your Guard Down
Like Mer, you might have a lot people that expect you to always have your life together and to stand strong. It's okay if that is not your reality, however, because you are only human. Don't forget that there is nothing wrong with taking a step back every once in a while and letting yourself be vulnerable.

4. Smart Is Sexy
You don't have to be a surgeon to want people to admire your intelligence. Aesthetic beauty is relative and doesn't actually accomplish anything. Smart and dedicated people, however, are the ones that can really make a difference in this word. These are the people we should admire.
5. Respect Is Earned
Izzie taught us that it's important to remember that being in a position of authority does not automatically grant you respect. To gain the trust of your friends and coworkers, first you must treat them as you wish to be treated. We might have different names, ages, and different job titles. At the end of the day, however, we are all human and all worthy of the same respect.
6. Tell People You Care About Them
One thing that "Grey's Anatomy" has definitely taught us is that we never know how long we have left with our loved ones. Because tragedy can strike at any moment, it's important to be honest with those who we truly care about.
7. You're Not Alone
When our favorite doctors were interns, they struggled together. Even with years of experience behind them, the chaos of their everyday work lives still gets to them sometimes. No matter what hardships you're experiencing, just remember that you are not alone in how you are feeling or what you're experiencing.
8. Food is Necessary
Christina is right. To live, we must consume food. To be happy, the food must make us feel good and taste good. No matter what happens in our day-to-day life, it's important for our sanity and wellbeing that food is available. Without it we, quite literally, couldn't survive.

9. There's Nothing Worse Than A Missed Opportunity
This one's really important. When we are given new opportunities, too often we do not take them for fear of failure. It's better to try and fail, however, than to regret not doing something that could have changed your life for the better.
