When the person closest to you in your life comes out, you go through a series of stages. You love him like your brother and only want what is best for him. He deserves happiness. You make it your personal mission to make sure the rest of the world believes it too.
1. You go into hyper-protective mode.
You are crazy protective over your person. You become overly sensitive to stereotypes and have zero patience for intolerance.
2. When you hear someone say “faggot,” you turn into The Hulk.
Your person may be able to brush it off and let it slide, but you are not that understanding. You still have some learning when it comes to ignoring it and letting it slide.
3. You deny that your extremely Christian third cousin is related to you.
The weird family members that you were forced to play with when you were children become ghosts of the past. You finally have a reason to deny that they are related to you. How can you come from the same blood as such intolerant people anyway?
4. When someone says they don’t believe in gay marriage you practically puke.
Your person has to hold you back when you overhear a conversation over brunch. You probably have to calm down your Facebook statuses about it too.
5. When you hear girls talk about how they wish they had a “gay best friend”, you go into your politically correct rant.
No, not all gay men are good at fashion, hair and makeup. They are people not your accessories.
6. You question someone’s entire existence when they say something homophobic.
Something bad must have happened to them as children, how can they be so ignorant?
7. You have the rainbow triangle on your door.
You proudly support the rainbow triangle on your door, car, T-shirt, keychain, etc. Basically anywhere possible. You don’t really care what anyone says.
8. You would do anything for your person and love them no matter what.
You love them regardless and wish the rest of the world would do the same.
