It’s Friday night. The group chat is in full swing. Plans are being made and locations are being discussed. Little do your friends know, you have a date with your bed and a season of Grey’s Anatomy. Or so you think…
1. The list of vague excuses
Your friends are telling you to get up and get ready, but you are resilient. You will not be getting out of bed. You will not put your bra back on.
You begin to throw out one stupid excuse after another: I haven’t done laundry in a month and am out of clean underwear. My allergies are acting up. I have a test in two weeks that I really need to start studying for. My mom told me I couldn’t. I’m really on my TV shows so I really just need to watch those tonight.
All of these go in through one ear and out the other.
2. The resistance
“You can’t make me” is your motto for the night. You throw out an array of different group activities that everyone can participate in that don’t entail leaving the house. When that doesn’t work you try the old “Sorry, I already took my bra off so I really can’t leave the house again tonight,” line.
3. Decision-making stress
While thinking out loud, you accidently let it slip that you are beginning to think it might actually be fun if you go out. Your friends take this and run with it. They start hitting you in all of your weak spots and then finally get you with the old, “You better hurry up otherwise you are not going to have time to get ready!”
4. Defeat
The troops have fallen and they enemy has infiltrated. You’re going out. While your friends are thrilled, you are giving yourself an internal lecture.
5. Would you like some cheese with that whine?
While it was ultimately your decision to go out, you are hardcore regretting it. Your whining skills are at an all time high. As you scramble to figure out what you are going to wear, you tell yourself over and over again that this is a bad idea.
6. The “Make me a drink, wench” stage
Your friends walk into your room looking extremely put together and give you a knowing smile. It's like they knew they would win all along. You look at them with a slight stink eye and let them know that you are not going anywhere until you have had a drink.
7. The Buzzkill
You arrive at the party and your friends immediately hit the dance floor. They try to get you to dance with them but you resist, simply to reinforce the fact that you really didn’t want to go out tonight.
But then…
Your song comes on and something takes over. You find yourself moving closer and closer, your hips start shaking to the beat and the next thing you know you are waving your hands in the air like you just don’t care!
8. Best night ever!!
Naturally, you end up having more fun than your friends did.
