College is a time of seeing new places, meeting new people and especially learning new things. Here are eight important life lessons you will be sure to learn during your time in college.

1. Not spending money unless you have to

College students are always cursed with the stereotype of being cheap, but stereotypes are not always wrong. Who would spend all their hard earned cash from their summer jobs if they didn't have to?

2. Packing

Going back and forth from school to home alone is enough packing to make you crazy. How can you really be expected to fit your whole life in a bag? Maybe it's because you do it so often, or maybe it's just because you never actually unpack, but if you've learned anything in college, it's how to pack like a pro.

3. Multi-tasking

Whether it be brushing your teeth in the shower, bringing your homework with you to the gym, or watching Netflix on your laptop while you scroll through Twitter on your phone, college students have learned to maximize what little free time we have between classes.

4. Procrastinating

Just because we have learned how to use to free time, that doesn't mean we have learned how to use it wisely.

5. Crafting

Why in the world would you buy that adorable wall hanging when you can probably make one for less? College is the perfect time to show any artistic ability you have by painting canvases for your room. Since your styles inevitably change from year to year, you also get very good at using spray paints to change things up a little bit over the summers.

6. Saying "no"

In high school you would have never turned down a chance to hang out with your friends, but in college it seems as if there is always something going on. Sometimes you just need a night to sleep, binge watch your favorite show and eat too much. When those nights come, you become the queen of "no."

7. How to wait for laundry day

There are four days left before you go home to free laundry, but you only have two pairs of underwear left. This dilemma is a frequent occurrence for a college student who has become an absolute professional when it comes to planning for free laundry day.

8. Saying goodbyes

After every break, every summer and every school year, there will be people you are saying goodbye to. While they may have been hard the first time, you have become a pro at goodbyes by now.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
