March 25, 2015: A day where fan girls all over the world were crying, in denial and disbelief. Zayn Malik, after five years of being a member of one direction decided to leave the band. One Direction's Facebook page posted the news saying that Zayn is leaving because he "wants to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight."
When I found out Zayn was leaving the band, I was shocked. Lets not even begin to discuss the amount of text messages I received that day from family and friends telling me he left the band. (I KNOW HE LEFT LET'S NOT ADD SALT TO THE WOUND.) During the days building up to March 25, 2015, there had been rumors in the media about him. I would turn my back on the rumors until the band confirmed or denied anything. As most fans, I was really pissed at Zayn. I thought he was going through some personal problems and should just resolve them, and then come back to the band. This was not going to happen. It was now official. One Direction completed their world tour (which was amazing because Niall got more solos, thanks, Zayn.) that year without their fifth member. I began to hate that I still liked Zayn's voice. I felt bad that I enjoyed his voice! How can I still enjoy One Direction's music but also look forward to Zayn's potential future.
March 25, 2016: Zayn Malik releases his first solo album. Emotions were high and most fans were on an emotional roller coaster. The following gif's fit the fan girl panic description to a T.
His songs just give off a laid back, sensual and high tempo vibe.
When you watch the music videos for the songs on the album.
When Zayn hits those famous high notes..oh those sweet sweet high notes.
When you secretly love the new album but you try to play it off like it is nothing.
All of these songs can totally be the playlist in Forever 21 or H&M.
It's weird to hear him curse in his new songs because One Direction songs are not the type you curse in.
When you look up the lyrics and think to yourself, "this is a new Zayn! Damn, he does not hold back."
Although it was a tragic loss to the One Direction fan girls (like myself), I can say that I am proud of Zayn. I will admit that I went through a time where I was not happy with him. Over time, I realized that people must do what feels right in their heart to maintain a happy life. I hope that Zayn flourishes in his solo music career. I look forward to his future achievements and maybe even a One Direction reunion tour down the road? Hey, one can dream.
