8 Fun Facts About UWGB

1. 1965- "Was a very good year"

As many of you know, UWGB has not been around for very long. Mainly hinting at the fact that it was founded in 1965 and there is even a dedicated room for that specific year.

2. There used to be 18 holes

Before UWGB was in its location there was an 18 hole golf course. Yet nine of them were saved so we can have our current location here today.

3. Classes officially started in 1968

In '68 the first four year programs started. Before that, GB just had two year degree programs.

4. Lombardi liked soccer

When you visit UWGB first developed their sports teams, Vince Lombardi liked soccer and also believe that if there was a football team it would compete with the Packers.

5. The Phoenix

According to legend, students put in a ballot to be called the phoenix. It works out pretty well, since we developed from a two year school to a four year school.

6. A rare bird

UWGB was the first team to adopt the Phoenix as a mascot. Only a couple years ago, a college in North Carolina adopted a phoenix as well.

7. Tunnel City

There is a concourse system- normally known as "tunnels" to the students. They offer comfort and shelter from the elements, especially since winter is coming up, and we are in the frozen tundra.

8. Weidner Center

It is formally known as the Midwest's top performing arts venues. It has only been around for about 20 years.
