8 Albus Dumbledore Quotes That Should Inspire Americans During This Trying Time

Our country is going through a difficult time. Never do I think, at least in my lifetime, we have been so divided. This election has made some genuinely fear for the future, instead of being excited and approaching it head-on. This election has caused more fights, riots, and protests than I have seen before. It has torn friends, families, and communities apart. We all want change. We all want a better life for ourselves and our future generations. Politics are very important and everyone has a right to their own beliefs, however the election is over and it is time to accept the outcome, whether you supported it or not. We need to come together and improve as a nation by accepting one another for who we are, which isn't necessarily going to be done by the inauguration of a new president. It will come when "We The People" start building each other up, instead of tearing each other down. If this election has made you lose faith in humanity and our nation as a whole, here are eight quotes from Albus Dumbledore (my all time favorite fictional professor) that will bring you hope and comfort.

1. "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."

Don't let this election affect your happiness. Go on, be yourself, and be kind to others. Don't hide in darkness and assume the worse is coming. Go out and make a change if you disagree with the way the election turned out. Who is going to stop you?

2. "Do not pity the dead Harry. Pity the living, and, above all, those who live without love."

3. "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that."

4. "While we may come from different places, and speak of different tongues, our hearts beat as one."

We are all so unique and different, yet we all strive for the same things, like love and peace. Why not come together and embrace our differences instead of using them as reasons to tear us apart? America is only going to move forward if we are able to come together and fight as one.

5. "Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good and kind and brave because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort."

Making the right choices in life isn't always going to be easy, but sometimes it is these choices that make the biggest difference. Do the right thing. Stand up for what you believe in, even if it is difficult at the time.

6. "You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!"

Stop judging others on their race, religion, sexuality, or sexual preferences. It doesn't matter how someone was born or raised. What matters is their character and how they treat others; Americans must understand this if we are ever going to continue to make progress.

7. "We must try not to sink beneath our anguish, but battle on."

8. "We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided."

This one speaks for itself.

Have faith that everything will be okay. Let's give America a chance and stop ruling it over before it even begins. Patience is key.

"Tough times don't last, tough people do." -Robert H. Schuller

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
