College is for experiencing life in a way you didn't think was possible. Don't be afraid to like what you like, be who you are, or do what you want. Here are the top five things you shouldn't ever be afraid to do:
1. Leave Home After High School
Even if it's just moving out of your parents house, or moving to a different state, leaving home is an experience everyone should be able to have. You learn so much about the world and about yourself. Your parents will still love you the same, your friends will visit just as often as you do, and your town will always be there.
2. Study What You Want
Yeah, your dad might really want you to study business because that's what he did, but if you don't like it, DON'T DO IT. It's your life, college is the time to set it up in a way that you will enjoy.
3. Fall In Love
No matter your sexual orientation, falling in love is awesome. You might get your heartbroken, or even break a few yourself, but love is truly something special. Even if your that "independent girl" that doesn't need a man, you might just have the time of your life with someone you care deeply for.
4. Blast Your Favorite Music
Who cares if you're 19 and still listening to One Direction? I do it all of the time. I might get made fun of for it, but I love their music; more importantly, I love Harry Styles. If I want to listen to "Best Song Ever" and sing at the top of my lungs, you better believe I am going to.
5. Make New Friends
I promise you: making new friends is awesome. No one will compare to your besties back home, obviously. But the people you meet in college are your soul mates. Whether you find someone who is your soul coffee drinking mate, your soul social butterfly mate, or your study soul mate, they are everywhere! And no one will ever understand you more.
6. Dress Up For Class
Everyone always makes it seem like you have to slum for class, which you most definitely will, but you can also get ready for absolutely no reason at all. No need for a presentation or an annoying professor! Dress up if you want to.
7. Move On From Your Ex
They might feel like the love of your life and that no one will compare to them, and maybe that's true, but don't be afraid to move on. You don't have to stop loving them or liking them, but letting go of them somehow will help you so much. Experience the different vibes from each person you meet, and don't let your high school ex hold you back.
8. Call Your Parents
Moving out doesn't mean that you're saying goodbye to the one's who gave you life forever. It's okay to call and ask how their day was, or to tell them about yours. Always say you love them, even when you're mad. You never know when they won't be able to come to parents day or when you don't have the weekend to go home. Cherish their love and support, and don't leave them hangin'.
