Life gets extremely stressful for everyone at some point in time. Trust me, I know working two jobs, two internships, and starting graduate school can be a lot of stress. The important thing is to not let yourself get burnt out. There are plenty of things you can do even when you don't have any time to help with the stress. Here are a few things that have helped me while I'm going through a crazy transition period.
1. Take a ten minute nap.
A ten minute nap sounds like nothing but my oh my can it make a difference. I was falling asleep writing a paper, took a break and napped for ten minutes. I can't even describe the energy I had after to finish my paper.
2. Use your time wisely.
If you have fifteen minutes in between work and class, use that time! Do a little bit of homework, eat a snack, or do a few crunches! Not wasting any time during the day will really pay off, ultimately giving you more time to relax at night.
3. Take time to watch tv.
In your downtime or even while taking a lunch break just watch an episode of Netflix. It will help you turn your brain off for thirty minutes helping you to relax.
4. Go to the gym.
You may be extremely tired and the last thing on your mind is going to the gym. However, going to the gym regularly gives you more natural energy throughout the day. If you start going regularly it will actually make you less tired.
5. Stop and take a breath.
Everyone gets overwhelmed. It's okay, it's natural. While you're sitting at your desk or sitting in class just take a few deep breaths. Close your eyes and just keep yourself at peace even if it's only for a minute.
6. Know your limits.
If you have too much going on that you're falling behind, you have to cut back. You cannot lie to yourself that you can do it all. Only you know how much you can handle so don't ignore that little voice in your head.
7. Keep a calendar.
Take it from me, I am not a planner girl. I have always thought that I can keep everything straight in my head and I didn't have to write anything down. I was wrong. Keep a planner or calendar! Even better keep one on your phone so it's with you constantly. I look at my phone calendar multiple times a day and even have reminders set.
