Sure, I've been on vacations before, and there's a pretty good chance that at some point you have too. I've been to Disney World, Virginia Beach, the Pocono Mountains (although I can't ski at all), and if you consider hiding from the wilderness in an RV to be camping, then I've done that as well. But I've never been on a vacation that was focused on animals, even though I love them and there are a bunch of places that would be perfect to visit. If you like animals, you'll definitely like these 7 vacation spots.
1. Big Major Cay in the Bahamas
The Bahamas is the official “Home of the Swimming Pigs." Visitors to the islands happily embrace the unique experience of swimming with the pigs on the uninhabited island of Big Major Cay, which is affectionately called “Pig Beach”
2. International Wolf Center in Ely, Minnesota
The International Wolf Center advances the survival of wolf populations by teaching about wolves, their relationship to wildlands and the human role in their future.Their exhibits are open to the public, as they welcome large groups and field trips to visit.
3. Sloth Sanctuary in Costa Rico
This sloth sanctuary is a rescue center for injured, orphaned, and abandoned sloths. From Tuesday to Sunday each week, two and four hour tours are open to the general public.
4. Crystal River in Florida
Guided kayak and canoe tours allow visitors to see manatees, along with other animals such as alligators and ospreys, in their native Florida habitat.
5. Blessing of the Animals at the Vatican
If you ever find yourself in Italy during the time of the Blessing of the Animals at the Vatican, bring your pet to be blessed by Pope Francis. This year, the event was held on January 17th, but it is occasionally held on October 4th to coincide with World Animal Day.
6. Sanwild Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa
This is a protected habitat for injured and orphaned wild animals in Letsitele, South Africa. Visitors can stay overnight in the Savannah Private Bush Camp, and proceeds help fund the South African animal rehab center. This fenced camp is set in gardens with a rock pool where guests can escape the heat while keeping a close eye on animals that come to drink at a waterhole, which is only a few feet away.
7. Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge in Orlando
If you can’t make it to a real safari, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge in Orlando is the next best thing. Wherever you stay in the hotel, you’ll have a view of over two hundred animals. Also available for viewing at this resort is the largest collection of African art in the United States.
