All of us have been in several classrooms throughout our lives, and in those classrooms we all have done things that could be potentially affecting another person's learning. Though these acts may seem meaningless, they really can impact another classmate or the teacher/professor.
1. Telling the next class what was on the test
Everyone in the class took so much time to study, and you go and tell the next class what was on the test so they can do better. I once had a teacher that took points off of the first class's test scores because the classes after them did increasingly better: it's not worth it.
2. Snapchatting people in the class or the teacher
No doubt that using a phone in class is disrupting, but taking pictures of fellow students and the teacher is just plain annoying.
3. Forgetting to turn off an alarm and having it go off during class
Interrupting the class is one thing, but the sound of an alarm clock usually scars a college student and therefore puts everyone in a bad mood. The sound of an alarm clock is a psychological trigger to automatic sadness.
4. Sleeping in class
Sleeping in a class shows a teacher or professor that you do not care and it makes the them less understanding when you have a question- even if you "understand" things better with your eyes closed.
5. Talking while the teacher or professor is lecturing
Having a conversation during lecture is not only distracting for the other students, it also distracts the teacher and therefore interrupts the class.
6. Doing any sort of hygienic activity during class
I have actually sat in a class where people have trimmed their hair, painted their nails, and picked food out of their teeth.
7. Blowing your nose several times during a test or lecture
We all get sick and too stressed to stay home, but it's so distracting when people get up every two minutes to blow their noses. Respect your classmates and go to the bathroom to do that!
8. Having headphones in during a lectur
You do not need to listen to music throughout every class period! In college, you are paying so much money to be in these classes: you should pay attention!
9. Clicking a marker cap or pen repeatedly
Do I even need to explain the problem with this?
10. Walking into class late every day
Walking in late on the first day or every once in a while in normal, but when it becomes a habit, it distracts and interrupts the class.
11. Packing up early
The absolute most annoying thing classmates can do is pack up while the professor is still teaching. It especially makes the professor feel inadequate and not respected.
I hope these things make you reconsider what you do in a classroom, and how it affects your classmates and professors!
