Summer time is the time for family barbecues and gatherings. Families come with different types of members from the loving grandma down to the baby of the family. There are tons of different types of family members, but here are some of the classics that we just can't get enough of at every family get together.

1.The funny uncle

The uncle that loves to crack jokes and make everyone laugh. It's hard not to laugh at his jokes even when he's making fun of you. Sometimes it takes a few drinks of alcohol to get this uncle really going, but honestly he's just as funny when he's not drinking. These types of uncles are also the ones that will slip you a 20 when no one is looking. Sometimes this uncle may be pretty goofy, but you have to admit he can be pretty cool.

2. Your go-to cousin

This is the cousin that you look for at every family gathering to avoid small talk with everyone else. This cousin is the one that you have jokes with and the one that will save you when all your aunts are ganging up on you. This cousin isn't just your go to cousin they are like a brother/sister. Not to mention this cousin was most likely the one you have baby pictures with in the bath.

3. The aunt that knows everything

This aunt is the gossiper. The one that knows who's who and what's going on in the family tree. No one isn't really sure how she hears all this gossip, but she always ends up knowing everyone's business. This is also the aunt that you go to when you need to know what's going on and when you need to get some gossip off of your chest.

4. The motherly aunt

This is the aunt that likes to be the mother to all her nieces and nephews. She loves to spoil them and is super cheesy. Every time you see her you know she's probably going in for a cheek pinch, a kiss, a hug, or both. Next to your mom this is the aunt that you pour out your problems to without hesitation. You can't deny even when she likes to be extra cheesy you still love her.

5. The oldest grandchild

Every family has the oldest kid that was their grandmas first grandchild out of all the cousins. This grandchild is the basically like a Guinea pig the family. The one that is the first to do a lot of things from college to bringing home a significant other. I am the oldest in my family and I can say from experience it is pretty crazy seeing your cousins grow up and go through some of the things you went through. It is also a little sad because you feel super old. Another thing about being the oldest is it sure is a lot of peer pressure, but I love my little cousins and I wouldn't have it any other way.

6. The youngest grandchild

This is the baby of the family or the spoiled one. This is the cousin that you always get yelled at for because you didn't let them play with your toys or make a mess in your room. This cousin is also the one that everyone just loves because they are the youngest and haven't left the nest yet so, the family is cherishing every possible moment with the last grandchild. This is also the little cousin that blames everyone else and because they are the baby they can get away with it.

7. The successful cousin

This is the cousin that is flaunted at family gatherings. Whether it be successful in sports, school, or work this cousin has their stuff together and everyone knows it. This cousin may or may not like to brag about their success, but don't worry because even if they aren't bragging your mom doesn't go a day without asking why aren't you more like your successful cousin.

There are tons of different types of family members that each bring a unique vibe to every family. I know my family has tons of different characters that make my family special. Family is what makes you who you are. Even when you aren't getting along or seeing eye to eye family is family and how I see it is if anyone in my family ever needed me I'd be there and honestly that's how it should be.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours.
