Here are the 7 truths about the first week of being a college freshman.
1. Welcome Week is a wild ride.
Welcome Week takes place a few days before classes start, where every college freshman does fun activities and gets acclimated to college life before the commencement of homework assignments and dreary lectures. This week is fun, but EXHAUSTING. Your schedule will be jam-packed, and sleep is hard to come by.
2. Small talk is a way of life.
Because you are just getting to know people as a freshman, just know that the same three questions is how every conversation is structured with someone new you meet.(a) Where are you from?
(b) What’s your major?
(c) Where do you live on campus?
After this week, you will NEVER want to hear those 3 questions again.
3. Dining hall food is awesome.
During the first week, you are so excited by the variety the dining hall has: frozen yogurt machine, dessert choices and pizza options. But, enjoy your love of the dining hall while it lasts…4. “Wow, I can’t believe this class takes attendance.”
Once you go to your first college class, you will quickly learn that every college movie is a liar. Why? A majority of the classes you will have take attendance in some way.5. Books are expensive
Everyone needs gear. As you walk into the bookstore to buy books, of course, you get sidetracked by the college logo gear. But, when you finally make your way to the textbooks section of the bookstore, you realize that your once exciting GE is now annoying and makes you buy a $200 textbook.6. “I can’t believe I’m alone.”
Your parents being gone won’t truly kick in until two weeks in, so, for now, you feel like you’re going to a fun summer camp (where you know no one).7. "I miss my friends from home."
You will miss your friends from home because every college starts at a different time. While you are struggling to make friends and going to class, your other friends might be living it up and showing it off on SnapChat.
Enjoy your first week because you won't experience anything like it ever again.
