College is an overwhelming time. There are constantly deadlines full of papers, tests and projects plus all of the activities you're obligated to complete in your free time. With limited sleep and a million things going on at once it's easy to look as tired as you feel on a daily basis. While there's nothing wrong with wearing a t-shirt and shorts to class every once in a while, looking like you have your life together is a confidence booster (and may even make you feel like you have your life together.
Here are seven tips on how a college student can make their life look put together.
1. Plan out your outfit the night before.
While it may feel a bit like the first day of kindergarten, being able to get dressed in the morning without putting any thought into it save you tons of time and stress.
2. Have your bags ready.
Similar to having your outfits planned out, by making sure you're bag has all of your notebooks, pens, etc., ready the night before means you won't be stranded in class without.
3. Keep your chargers with you.
Having your phone or computer die during the day can be frustrating when you don't have time to run home and get it. By keeping your chargers with you, you'll be prepared in case you need to charge a device throughout the day.
4. Have an emergency bag.
As someone who is accident prone, is constantly spilling things, and gets sick ofter, I like to keep a variety of small items with me wherever I go. A small bag that has a bandaid, pain reliever, tissues, Chapstick, a mint, and several other small things have saved me more times than I can count.
5. Keep a snack with you.
Being hungry in class can be distracting. By having a small snack with you, you'll be able to focus better and not have to panic on the days you don't have time to eat lunch.
6. Use dry shampoo.
Don't have time to wash your hair? Dry shampoo has been a life savor on many mornings. I like to use it before I got to bed the day that I washed my hair so it can start working before my hair has a chance to get greasy.
7. Take time to rest.
I've struggled with this one throughout my entire college experience. Knowing that I have so much to accomplish by the next day usually keeps me up until the middle of the night. The next day I'm tired, grumpy, and have no motivation to do anything.
I've learned that taking time out of my to relax, whether it be a short nap after class, watching a short show, or even just taking a walk has helped me relax. That, combined with making sure I get at least six hours of sleep has helped me more than pulling all-nighters ever did. You'll feel and look better when your body has time to get the rest that it needs.
While I could probably write a book about my trial and error experiences throughout college, these tips have helped me at least look like I know what I'm doing. The most important thing is to do what helps you be prepared for the day so that you can not only look, but also feel productive and successful!
