I’ve been binge watching the Simpsons because it’s on Hulu and I have a free trial for that website. I realized that sometimes I just understand Homer Simpsons really just is an expression of what all college students go to. I also really do love their Halloween episodes. I realized there were several moments in the show where I really just felt what Homer Simpsons felt on a regular basis. The Simpsons is my spirit cartoon.
1. Homer understood that feeling ALL THE TIME. Especially after getting bad test grades back even though you studied all night.
2. Bart falling down the stairs was a representation of how life beats us up. It’s kind of painful sometimes but we just have to keep going. Good work to college students everywhere just for getting back up every day.
3. Millhouse understands how the sleep deprivation can really make us go crazy sometimes. Getting enough sleep is hard, but clearly very important. Don’t be Millhouse.
4. The photo really does say it all. My least favorite part of the day is easily when my alarm goes off in the morning. The snooze button is anyone's best friend.
5. Homer quite accurately describes our desire to just smash something every once in awhile. It’s hard to build up a high level of motivation when the university is trying to squash it out of you.
6. We really, really should work out. But oh god. Netflix and stress eating are just so much more tempting. Especially when the gym is all the way across campus, but Netflix is right there…
7. And finally, sometimes, after a stressful week, we really wish this existed. But unfortunately it stays a fantasy (which is probably good for our livers and our bank accounts. Gas is expensive, I can’t imagine why wine would be cheaper.)
Maybe you see a little bit of yourself in the Simpsons, maybe you don't. But I know for sure that I picked the right show to binge watch. I really emphasize with the struggles that the Simpson family goes through each episode because it almost always relates to college. Sure, sometimes they're a little more adult than I am right now, but I definitely understand Homer Simpson's "doh!"
