My days as a teenager were spent dreaming of the life Lauren Conrad lived. From "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County," to "The Hills" of Hollywood— MTV made her life seem absolutely amazing.
"Laguna Beach" gave me my first taste of reality TV when I was growing up, and now MTV is giving us "Siesta Key." While it could never replace what was once "Laguna Beach" or "The Hills," it was easy to obsess over a show with a cast that looks like models and has beautiful beaches that I wish I was laying on.
I was definitely intrigued by the first episode, just like many of you, and now as the season progresses, so many thoughts have filled my head but here's 7 thoughts "Siesta Key" left us all thinking:
1. Wait, how old are they?
Finding out that the cast was around my age left me in utter shock. Alex doesn't look like the guys I go to school with and Kelsey is a model who's traveled to more countries than I can afford to think about.
2. No one does reality TV narrations like LC.
Yeah, we're going to compare you to the OG reality show. Lauren Conrad narrated both of her reality shows, intriguing us and making us wonder what is going to happen next. On "Siesta Key," a different cast member will be narrating each episode, which doesn't give us the same emotion as having LC tell us what was going down each week.
3. Wow, what do these kids' parents do for a living?
Have you seen Alex's home? The pool? The stairs? The pillars? I'm currently crunching the numbers to see how long it would take for me to achieve such an epic pad. Let's not forget, his dad hired producers to create a TV show about his son's life. Crazy, right?
4. How much of this is actually scripted?
MTV broke our hearts when they revealed how much of "The Hills" was scripted. From jobs to relationships, a lot of it was staged and planned out. It makes it hard to believe that they can go back to the more raw production that was "Laguna Beach." I'm unsure if I could ever trust MTV to make real reality TV just like I'm unsure if I could ever trust Alex not to cheat on anyone.
5. They are beautiful.
I don't think I've seen many couples as attractive as Garrett and Kelsey. Any time they're together is insane. I bet everyone stops and stares when they walk into the room. The cast is gorgeous, making it a little easier to watch.
6. Yeah, boys cause too much drama.
Somehow, we still give them the time of day. The question still remains: Are guys really worth losing friendships? I guess we'll find out later on in the season. Yet, I can imagine it is hard to get over a guy who constantly plays you and makes you fall in love.
