Family Weekend.
A time when mothers, fathers, and even brothers and sisters pack up the car and head off with the intention of seeing their child or sibling enjoying the adventurous college life and all that it has to offer. Freshman are eager to prove to their families that they have survived the first few months of living independently and have adapted well into the social scene at their college. By senior year, many parents come as an informal farewell as they see it as a chance to enjoy the weekend festivities in the fall before graduation the following semester.
Regardless of the reason parents come for a quick weekend jaunt, there are seven things all students can relate to thinking about while their family is in town.
1. Getting your parents to take you out to the nice restaurants in town that you never have the money and/or time to go to during the regular weekend.
2. For the older students in particular, having your parents run to the grocery store with you just to pick up a "few things," which ultimately turns in to stocking your entire apartment/dorm with amazing treats.
3. Frantically cleaning your apartment/dorm right before they arrive with the hope that your parents might think you have your life together.
5. When they try to ask about how your classes are going this semester and you attempt to casually diffuse the question (emphasis on casual).
7. And lastly, on a more sentimental note, being thankful they took the time out of their busy schedules to spend time with you. (And you really do miss them even if the freshman won't admit it!)
