Every college student knows how necessary a break is after finals week. After all the stress of projects, papers and finals, it’s nice to have time away from school. However, there are a few things we're all going to miss about our home away from home.
1. Roommates
It’s always nice to go home, reunite with our beds and not have to worry about roommates. But for most of us, our roommates are our best friends, and we would be lost without them. There’s nothing like late night talks about life, dance parties at one in the morning to old 90’s music or movie nights after a long week of class. Break is torture for those of us who won't see our roomies till after break because two months is just way too long to deprive a girl from her best friend.
2. Nights Out
I think we all can agree that going out during college doesn’t compare to going out at home. The parties are bigger, better and way more convenient. There is no worrying about how you’re getting there or who you'll run into. At school, you are right on campus and there are so many things to do and people to meet.
3. The Freedom
At school, there are no curfews, nobody to tell you to clean your room and nobody to tell you to do your laundry. In college, you have the freedom to do what you want when you want. Your parents can't yell at you if you stumble back to your dorm at 3 a.m. on a Saturday night and order pizza or if you decide to sleep till 3:00 in the afternoon and lay in bed all day.
4. That Special Someone
Whether you have an ongoing relationship at school or just met someone this semester, leaving them over break is definitely one of the hardest parts about break. Nothing beats being able to see that special someone everyday, but turning an 'everyday thing' into an 'every couple of weeks thing' can put a strain on any relationship. It's the ultimate test of trust. The good part is, if you made it past those long two months apart, you get to enjoy another three together.
5. Friends
You'll always have your hometown friends from high school, but you'll notice that the number you keep in touch with begins to drop once freshman year starts. As you get older your friends from college start to become your 'go-to' friends, and not seeing them every day it just doesn't feel right. Friends at college aren't just friends -- they're your family-away-from-family while you are hours away from yours. It's only natural to miss them while you're gone.
6. Food
I know you're thinking that nothing beats a home cooked meal. Well, nothing beats walking a block and having food whenever you want it. If you're anything like me, you're always hungry. At home, when I want food I have three options. I can either beg my parents for money or food, make my own food (which takes an hour) or use my own hard earned money and get in a car to buy some. At school, I can grab something on my way back from classes, late night or early in the morning. You name it, you can have it. The best part is, you don't have to pay a dime for it! Unless you count tuition...
7. Not Working
For most of us, going back home means that we're joining the workforce again. It's back to, "Hi, Welcome to (insert workplace here)" over and over again. Nothing beats not having to wake up on the weekends and drag yourself out of bed for yet another 8-hour shift. At school weekends are for unwinding from the week before, resting for the week to come and possibly getting ahead on some work that needs to be done.
