You would think that the four years of college classes and observation would get you ready for student teaching but here are some things the classroom will not tell you. h
1. You will be exhausted every single day of your life.
No matter what time you go to bed you will still be exhausted at every hour of the day.
2. You will be poorer than poor.
You know you won't have time for a job before starting student teaching but somehow your money goes a lot faster than you think.
3. You will quickly become the "grandma" of your friend group.
Your friends will call you grandma because of number 1. Hey its not our fault we work a 9-5 teaching 28 screaming children everyday, let us go to bed at 9:30 every once and a while!
4. Not everything will go as planned.
You will have teacher fails and that's okay! You will learn how to improvise very quickly and the students will still learn, don't stress!
5. You will become a parent.
Your class is not simply just your class they will quickly become your children and some might even call you mom.
6. Everything you learn will come from that class.
Nothing matters until you start student teaching and nothing can prepare you. You have to jump right in and think on your feet. The students will teach you far more than you will ever teach them, so enjoy and take it all in!
7. It will be the best time of your life and you will cry when you leave.
No matter how exhausted you are or how ready you think you are to be done with teaching nothing will prepare you for the end. You will quickly realize that you will miss all of the silly questions, dumb jokes and bear hugs so much.
At the end of the day, this will be the time of your life and all you can do is enjoy the crazy ride!
