You've probably spent the majority of the summer so far taking advantage of a full fridge of food at home and binge-watching Netflix because you have no homework or tests to study for. Although those are great ways to spend time there is no fun in remaining a couch potato all summer. When you get back to school, your friends are sure to want to hear all your amazing stories, but not if you do not have any.
Here are seven other ideas you could be doing, which would definitely make your summer more memorable and probably more enjoyable.
1. Start a new book.
I understand reading a book is something only few people enjoy these days, but I believe that finding a comfy spot, making yourself a cup of coffee and grabbing a new book that you actually enjoy, is a great way to spend some of your day. You'll keep your mind active during the summer, and you might discover a new favorite book series or author. Lose yourself for a few hours of the day delving into a world unlike your own. You'll be surprised what a good read can teach you.
2. Go to the beach.
Going to the beach, whether it be by yourself, with your friends or even with your family, is a great way to spend a full day outside. Don't forget the sunscreen (or tanning oil if you're like I am), catch some Vitamin D and work on that tan. If you go with your friends, bring a volleyball net or Kan Jam to stay active as well. And always bring a camera, so you can photograph every moment, even if you are the one being thrown into the ocean.
3. Eat ice cream.
This is probably my favorite activity on this list. Ice cream feels so refreshing on a hot summer day. Google a local ice cream spot near you, grab your friends and take a trip! "What size would you like?" Go for the large, you know one scoop isn't enough.
4. Spend time with your Friends and family.
You're with your college friends for nine months out of the year, so this summer try spending some quality time with the people who haven't seen you in forever. Make plans with your friends from back home and relive the memories you had from high school, but also fill each other in about your new adventures at college. Don't forget about your family, who are probably dying to hear all about your amazing year at college.
5. Go outside!
As much as I love spending my days inside with my eyes glued to my laptop, I forget how important it is to spend even 10 minutes outside. It is true that 15 minutes a day spent outside will improve your mood and health! Even if it's just for a walk around your neighborhood, it's always a great idea to get some fresh air and keep yourself moving (so you could burn off those calories from idea No. 3.)
6. Sleep.
I think we all forget how important sleep is, especially after a whole year at college where our sleep schedules are way out of whack. It's important for your body to get the proper amount of sleep, roughly 8-10 hours, each night. Even if you take a cat nap during the day it'll keep you energized and alert so you can enjoy your summer.
7. Enjoy your free time before the school year starts.
Even though it feels like summer lasts forever, it's only three months long and school will be right around the corner before you know it. Summer is a great time to enjoy the feeling of not having a 10-page paper due the next day or dealing with school drama. It's a time where you should have fun, spend time with the people you love, laugh a lot, make memories, eat (a ton), take pictures, but most importantly, relax, because we all deserve a good break!
